CB Radio

Mobile telephony killed the CB star.

I loved the old CB .................pitty the muppets had to spoil it all ...............the thing with mobile technology is that mobile phones cost money to talk ..........................CB radio is free to talk to a hole bunch of people at the same time ...............................for free.

I honestly dont think it will take off again.........................like Norrie said .......it`s ok for the truckers and the like ......great for asking directions ( we now have sat nav for that now ) ...but to have them as set-ups in the home again ...............I dont think it will take off again.

I too also hird that they are to be banned all together ...............

Another question arrises with cb radio ................................if you have them in your vehicals do you have to have "hands free"......just like we do for mobile phones ?

been doing some googles on the banning thing and nothing concrete on the subject, just that they,ve stoped the lience fee.

One interesting thing i came across was this from the bbc

"And there is at least one area where the CB dealers might see growth.

Tiverton Age Concern is using CB radio to combat the feelings of loneliness and vulnerability felt by older people living alone, often in remote areas.

After the charity was left a legacy by a CB enthusiast, it issued 20 pensioners with sets. For a generation where not all are comfortable with the internet, and with many finding mobile phones too expensive, the radios are a godsend.

For an hour every morning, they chat on the radio. Some even have call signs and use slang like asking for an "eyeball", a face-to-face meeting, says Mary Healey of Age Concern.

"One chap said 'I can listen to other people talking if I want join in I can but it means the world when you are on your own and have only got the cat for company'."

Dean, are they using the 27mhz frequency?

I think the 446mhz(?) handhelds are being used more these days.

Dave, Yep, still 27Mhz mate.....  Isnt the 47mhz for those wee walkie talkie sets, I have a pair.....but nothing on them says what frequency they use...

Dean, have a look at this site, VERY helpful...and BTW, I forgot, they (CB's) are very handy when you are doing off roading...I used to have a set in my old series 3.... :D :D
