fishing on the IOW

Happy Dude:

thanks salar,

is plugging any good on the island??

rocks or beach??

Never tried it, but the biggest problem is floating weed in summer, which can make lure fishing a misery. If plugs keep picking up weed you could try jelly worms rigged "weed free" with the hook point hidden. Rocks would be better than beach I think, but you should be able to fish for bass in the evening all along Guarnard whether rocks or beach.

How about Bembridge? I will be staying there for a week in July. Only taking my spinning rod and lures. Staying at Nodes point. Any info on Bass spinning marks would be very welcome. Never fished the island before.

Anyone fishing the Isle of Wight in July should be advised there is yet another AN trip on Sunday the 10th!!! Aboard Electric Blue with RobT.

I know its from Lymington, but it`s not far to swim. Alternatively get the ferry!! :D:D

We don`t use J`s anymore!!

Bembridge is good, particularly towards the Ledge. I'll see what I can find out for you.

hi salar,

that would be great mate, can't have too much info, except when you don't have enough time to exploit it

Do you have Hugh Stoker's book "Sea Fishing in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight"? My copy is very old but the IoW is still the same shape, so most marks will be the same. If you want me to photocopy the relevant bits for you, PM me with you snail mail adress and I'll send them. e.g. "Gurnard Beach. Shore casting in the evening with nylon paternoster or ledger tackle stands a good chance of taking sizeable bass. Beach is mainly shingle but take care to avoid rocky snags. Baits: rag, herring, slipper limpet". Etc...
