Safety first!

This group of kayakers are members of a professional club. However today the adverse weather conditions proved too challenging for a few of the party.

it does make you wonder how "professional" they were going out in "adverse weather conditions" we all like a challenge, but don't ask RNLI to pick up the pieces when things go so wrong as you put their lives in danger as well

To the lonely sea and sky

I left my shoes and socks there

I wonder if they're dry?

Agree with all the above.

However, given that part of the world they could have genuinely been caught out. It can and does happen you only have to listen to ch 16. This is supported by the comments of the RNLI/Coastguard, so lets not be too harsh. He was properly equipped and their safety procedures worked. Sometimes s..t happens.

Fished since 2003, the rest of my life I just wasted.

I think it would be a good idea if the RNLI sent a bill to people they resue. It could be a summary of the cost of the rescue, and an invitation to pay all or as much as they can afford, with no liability to pay, just a voluntary contribution if they wanted to.

I bet most people would pay for their lives!

Better to get there credit card number while there still in the water

It's funny how people change there mind on dry land !!

but this could lead to all boat users to have some sort of insurance to cover being saved by the RNLI

Yeah might not have been the best idea setting off :headhurt:

I was there that day and launching into those conditions on a SOT didn't even cross my mind. I imagine they had state of the art sea kayaks, which presumably made them over confident. Can't imagine they were familiar with the area though, wanting to go out around Land's End on spring tides and wind against curent, which created the "overfall" wave conditions that was their down fall.:blink:

On the basis of "plan for the worst and expect the best" and generally feeling that I might need, at some point, to take advantage of their service, have joined the RNLI. That was my charity donation in lieu of Christmas (Bah humbug) cards
