Anyone bothered with a river lately?

I haven't been out for weeks and weeks, and it's looking like a stillwater or bust at the moment. Has anyone bothered with the flooded rivers recently? I need to get out there soon, I'm going nuts! This was supposed to be the season of the big chub, but I don't think it'll go that way... I haven't bothered sorting the old pike gear out yet either. To be honest I don't know what I should be after in this wierd weather - carp I suppose!

What's happened to winter? :headhurt:

Hi

I fished the Arrow on Sunday, It was still high but dropping, I caught 3 Chub ( 2 x 2lb, 1 x 3lb+) from 3 diffrent swims.

I really had to fight for bites.

I used Peppered lunchen meat rolled in Tumeric.

I had a few small plucks but the bites were very tentative. I ended up free lineing with just a small shoot close to the bait, I let it roll into snags and undercuts.

I fished into fetures were the current was slack and eventuly got a fish, but the swim was dead after and had to move.

The Avon was unfishable for most of its legth in Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

It seems smaller rivers fall faster so be come fishable earlier.

The Welland here in Spalding is still fishing well. There was a big match here sat and Bob Nudd was fishing here. Nuddy does about 3 matches here during Jan & Feb.

Take nothing but photo's.

Leave nothing but footprints.

i fished the thames a few times over the holiday, had a few chub, best was about 4 1/2lb i think. and had a few small pike, but nothing that good. and yes, it is still very wet, doesnt seem to have done much else than rain, but we cant do much about it, unless someone decides to put up a massive umbrella over the country, which i dont think is that likely.

i fished the river suck earlier in january too, that was 5 foot higher than usual im some places, but it was fishable, physically, although it was far from perfect, we did get a few pike, and i got a 23lb pike, 3 cast of the trip, but over than that, it was quiet. I didnt have a camera, so my guide took a photo, when he emails it to me, i will post a pic of it on the site, it was a lovely fish, if a lucky fish!!

Also on flooded rivers, ive been waiting to fish the wye for grayling since november, i got the ticket for the river in early november, might even have been october, and i still havent had a window of oppurtunity to fish it yet, as im waiting for 4 dry days, which hasnt happened recently around wales.

I went to the river trent last friday(smeaton's caravan park stretch at newark) and it was just too high to fish so ended up at newark dyke, it was up about 5ft there, no joy though, although in the afternoon 2 young lads turned up and caught a 4lb barbel which made me question my ability
