i think it originates here

piker

"miserly person," 1872,

A chap I knew about 50 years ago was nicknamed "P*key" I hadn't realised why, but yes, now I come to think of it, he was always slow to buy his round <_<

Down here in Zuzzex the term is applied to travellers in the sense of "one who wanders the turnpike roads"

BTW Its OK to be a "vagabond" (a wanderer, especially an idle and disreputable one) but a "vagrant" goes a stage further , and is liable to be arrested under the vagrancy laws.

All I will say it has been played on all the news stations in Canada and it has made us look bad. The police response seems to have been too little to late, don\'t blame the rank and file. As for the rights and wrongs, taking people personal possesions can be never right no matter how we dress it up with ancient laws, it comes down to respect.

Now that there is an official salvor on the scene the chances are that nobody will get there property back. As I posted before the salvage company probably have a Lloyds Open Form on the ship and her cargo now. If they do then ship, cargo the works now belong to them

Newt, if you read this, you used to be in the US Coastguard, how would the law apply if this had happened in the Carolinas?

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
