Pelagic Sargassum

Its interesting how long one can live near a habitat without having a clue that it even exists, much less understanding what it is.

I was checking the weather today and noticed an area of the Atlantic ocean off the North Carolina coast labeled Pelagic Sargassum Habitat Restricted Area. A WHAT???

Tried to post a direct link to the NOAA article but couldn't make it work. Do a Google search for

pelagic sargassum study area

and the article should be near the top of the first page. It works from there for some reason.
