Why the secrecy?

With no particular reference to Judy's post about reporting someones signature line, but obviously initiated by it, why should there be secrecy involved?

 

If anyone feels strongly enough to report a post then why should we not all see that report? Genuine concerns (probably justified) are nothing to be ashamed of.

 

I have recently taken another approach to what I consider objectionable posts (ferrets poo topic)..........keep them at the top................let as many people as possible see the sort of stuff he posts, even if it means "joining in"

 

Would 'narf liven things up a bit :)

I don't see what possible use public reporting of posts would serve. I've reported stuff on here before for various reasons and for innappropriate content my feeling is it's best for the mods to just remove it - if of course they agree with my reasonings. Putting the thing on public display just leads to a circuitous round of bickering which just drags the forum down (IMHO).

I have reported posts in the past, mostly the childish and abusive ones we had in the sea section, a few months ago.

 

I don't think those reports need to be made public.

If other people agreed with specific items being reported, they should have reported them themselves.

 

I share Den's feelings about certain threads that appear on here, that are very borderline.

My strategy is the opposite, I don't post on them so that they will slide off the page quicker.

When people post, even criticising and objecting, they are giving the poster the attention they crave.

Just because one person has an objection to something, not everyone will share that view. So if people made their complaints public, it could lead to a sort of hate campaign against them, as some people on here have a mob mentality.

 

Just for the record, I have not reported anyone or anything, as far as I can remember.

i must say i have only ever reported one post but not for the reason most are ,i must admit the forum isnt as subscribed (in posting terms) as it used to be ,i dont use any other fishing forum but here and i must admit its pretty slow of late ,a bit of keyboard abuse certainly livens things up and whilst not condoning ( although i do at times myself) a bit of petty name calling rarely hurts anyone and disagreements are part of life i have nothing against them.

people huff and puff and report a post but you can bet they keep that thread open as much as everyone else.

the biggest online masses (excepting that strange christmas hickup) was when there was plenty of online punch ups.

after a while things cool down and hopefully all are mates again! just because theres disagreement it doesent mean the thread needs pulling and probably not even "adjusting" its how things are! its how life is! if we all clapped each other on the back and told each other we agreed with everything they said and how their clothes ,house ,car were nice and wished they had the same taste etc i certainly would die of boredom.

its just the world has gone PC mad and over protective ,saying boo to a goose today means the "boo" is deleted and the goose pittied.

yup i could leave and join a rowdy american forum where anything goes but i kinder like it here and the people on it even rabbit i dare say has his good points and Newt cant help being american can he

 

ps i wouldnt join an american forum all those stetsons and yeeehawing and talk of grits and possum bellies wouldnt be the same.

 

it kinda annoyed me the PM system wasent for full on behind the scenes abuse ,at least it kept most off the forum ,well untill one of the PMers run out of words or excuses or lies and tried to bait someone else in the post who may not put them in their place.
