I replace my leader two or three times in a day so shortened droppers aren't a problem. However, I would be cautious of the strenght of the links.....there doesn't seem to be anything to hold the hoop in place under pressure.

how many hours/minutes would you go if regular casting on moving water, before changing your leeder?

Phil, that would really depend on conditions, but anything up to once every 1/2 hour. Normally I may change cast strenght, lenght, spacing, flouro/mono, no. of droppers to suit conditions as they change. Other times I could fish for 3 or 4 hours with the same set-up if catching well. I will often alter my whole cast if changing flies, ie. if changing to smaller fly sizes I would ordinarily reduce cast diameter also. I would also reduce fly spacing if wanting the flies to fish slightly deeper. I change to mono if fishing on the surface, flouro if fishing wets. I change if I get a wind knot or a tangle-I never bother untangling a cast as it will usually retangle easily once kinked and I can re-tie a 3 dropper cast in about 60 seconds with my standard double overhand dropper knots...I defy anyone to untangle even hitched droppers any quicker and another 60 seconds will see the flies tied back on with a perfect conditioned cast. With the amount of competition angling I've done I always make sure my cast is totally sound and my flies are fishing properly. There is nothing worse than losing a fish on an old or damaged cast that you knew to be so. Over here one or two fish can win a major competition as we usually fish for totally wild browns, unlike the UK competitions where bag limits and time bonuses often make the top placings. Losing a fish in these cases can prove very costly, some loughs like Ennell you are likely to have only one chance of a takeable fish. I often change flies between drifts until I get something working, wild trout are rarely free rising, especially when there are 50 odd boats charging around a lough.
