Tywyn Trip

Travelled on Friday to meet up with Richi , Phooey , Gareth , nifty and S2Vto. Met them on the seafront after a days fishing and No tope , not even a run!

Richi had a quick tea and headed home but Saturday beckoned and we were joined by Mark J and 3 lads from north wales Spud , hughes and Ray.

Saturday saw everyone keen to hit the reef with big Gar especially keen!

stopped on the way up to the reef for Mackeral and in addition hit some small Bream , Pollock and a small bass on the plug.

Eventually reached the reef , passing Marc and the North wales lads on the way before joining nifty , Gareth and Phooey , but once again no Tope! Doggys and small Huss and even a Codling who swallowed 1/2 a maccie !

With dissapointment setting in we were about to call it a day when two lads ( William and Benjamin) appeared on the scene with two odd looking vessels!! So thats what the Bics look like!!

After a bit of goading they agreed to a race between buoys of about 100 yards !! Bill was first to take me on in my Prowler with Nifty adjudicating!! The Bic was no match for the Ocean kayak , the yellow peril winning by a distance!! It would have been unfair for the Dorado to take on Benjamin but Gareth suggested Phooey paddled backwards!! The Bic was slow out of the traps and Phooey was soon a couple of lengths up , which had increased to around 5 yards at the line!! Great fun!!

Anyway the lads all headed in except for myself and Nifty and were we glad we did. ;D

Around an hour later there was a massive bait bust which lasted a good hour with Bass everywhere slashing at small sand eels. Nifty had around 18 up to 3lb on a J11 and toby , whilst I had a dozen on a J9 , keeping two of around 4lb to feed the camp later

Top days fishing but alas No Tope. :(

Myself, Captain Fishy Fingers and the Taliban Yaker were in tywyn all week, we didn't really try for tope but had bass to approx 6lb and cod to 8.5lb, also a nice size huss and a pollack of around 4-5lb. other species caught included mackerel, black bream, gurnard, the usual doggys, lesser weaver and some nice size greater weavers (up to about 2lb i think as i didn't weigh them in.)the weather was cracking all week and the sea flat as a mill pond making the beach launching easy (tywyn is a good surf beach so launching and returning there can be interesting at times.) All in all a great time was had by all. As a side note does anyone on here know how to fillet greater weavers ? we had some nice size ones and would have taken them for the pot had we known how to prepare them safely, as is they went back but i'm seriously interested in trying them as they are supposed to be a bit of a delicacy.

I've caught and eaten them in Spain, no difference in filleting them as any other round fish, just run knife up the side. They do taste nice, better than Bream in my opinion. Watch them spikes I,ve seem em go through a plastic bucket.

I could sleep on a clothes line me :D

I fished Friday and Saturday then shot home to fish Stackpole on Sunday. Once home I managed to catch 1 Tope around 25lb, 2 congers both about 20lb, a couple of Huss, lots of dreaded Dogs, some Pollack, 2 small Bass and a shedfull of Makerel.

I did take some photo's but only 2 are even close to viewable. I need a new camera and probably some instruction on how to take a photo :wallbash:

I was out on the reef at tywyn for a few days tues 5/6 to fri 8/6 & had some excellent fishing.

Other than the usual bream(to 2lb),mackerel(plenty in the deeper water just south of the reef),dogs & huss here are a few highlights.

Tuesday saw a tope about 25lb on half a fresh mackerel.

No tope wednesday but had some nice bass to 3 1/2lb on surface plugs from a bait bust indicated by a flock of gulls.

Concentrated on the bass thursday on plug & fly & had 3 fish inshore then moved 3/4 mile out to another bait bust & had another dozen or so.

On the water at 6am friday & paddled out through a school of dolphins(fantastic!) to the daily bait bust & had a brilliant time with about 15 bass to 5 1/4lb all on the fly. Packed up about 9.30am & back to the caravan in time for breakfast.

One of the best weeks fishing I've ever had & shall be back for more for 2 weeks commencing 18th august.
