Rough looking Bream

Jigotai

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, I caught this bream the other night on my local stretch of the lea. Any one know what's wrong with it.

Apart from it looking blind, I've no idea Andy, but it's certainly a sickly looking fish.

I fear we are going to see a lot more of this kind of thing in the coming weeks and months.

The effect of the stuff that's been introduced into fisheries as a result of this years floods, is IMO going to be felt for some time yet.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

It is covered with spawning tubercles, it is a healthy but none the less unsightly occurrence . Tubercles look and feel wart like and gives the impression of disease to the untrained eye, the red cloudy eye is caused by the camera flash. It is a perfectly normal fish.

What's wrong with it? It's dead my lad, that's what's wrong with it!

No,no sir, it's not dead...it's resting. ......It's probably pining for the Broads. The Norwegian Bream prefers kipping on it's back.

Those are nothing like spawning tubercules, more like an extrememly heavy infestation of argulus:

Those are obviously the largest and pretty nasty. I would think that fish is most certainly doomed.

English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary, Rawlinson End.

I'd say you were right there Peter, the bumps certainly looked more like some sort of infestation.

If that fish looks normal where you fish, I'm glad I don't fish there.
