Hi all,

Please could someone please tell me what the amount of grams on the side of a pole float means, does this corrispond to the weight of the shoting? if so what are the weights of the different sizes of standard british split shots?

Look forward to responses,

Matt

yes and you can buy really small shot or olives in special containers for pole floats

I am not sure of each shots weight in grams but at home have a guide and the boxes they are in also have the weights on.

Any polt float over 0.5gram should really be shotted with an olivette and a few droppers.

The reason is there is no point in having a big bunch of shot on the line when one bulk shot will do.

Any with shotting guides such as 4 x 10 etc are generally lighter patterns but as stated by someone else - these are measured by style sizes which are also measured in grams.

Most people make up rigs at home using cut down 2 or 3 litre bottles full of water.

I also do this.

The only trouble is that there is a very dense film caused on the surface, you cannot take into account the amount of line used on the rig or the weight of the hook (I never make up rigs with hooks as I do not know what size or pattern or hooklength I will be using), tow on the water and even how the bait will affect float.

What I do is slightly undershot float when making up rig then adjust on the day I am using it.

In my opinion there are way to many types of float on the market.

Most to me do the same job but look slightly different.

What you need to do is find the type that suits your venues / species then make up a load of the same patterns at different weights and with various line sizes.

This way you will gain confidence in your rigs and not confuse yourself when you open your winder tray!!!!!!!!!!!!
