what are you putting in your bait this winter

Most of my winter fishing since being converted to flavourings has been for perch. This species loves spicy flavourings and I find the colder the weather the hotter they seem to like it.

I'd especially recommend Perch Magic from Archie Braddock. Go to http://www.braddocksbaits.co.uk You can read about the deveopment of this flavour at anglersnet.co.uk/ubb/ultimatebb...t=013904#000007

Paul, also from Archies range is the one called "Hot Magic", this is for when the temperatures really drop this winter. This will get you bites on otherwise blank days.

kleinboet:

while we are on this thread, I have been sold some hot curry powder to put sparingly on my maggots.  Anyone had success with this?

Before using Archie's products I used various spices. Each make is different, but in general I found Garam Masala a good allrounder, although Madras Curry was even better when water temperatures really dropped. However, I've found Archie's concoctions even better!

I have used the following in my last three winter league matches (all from braddocks) :

Mega tumeric, I use this with maize flour to clean and store maggots/pinkies

then on the night before the match Perch magic on red maggots and roach magic on the pinkies.

At the start of the match I add roach magic to the water holding casters and perch magic in my chopped worm/caster mix.

half way through the match half a small booster dose of whatever to each bait.

I have finished 6th (a few ounces from framing) , 4th (which gave me section win) and first.

I am second in the league with one match to go.

I swear the flavourings have boosted catch rates.

During the match where I won I held a shoul of Roach for five hours and caught almost 200 of them.

I think the scent held them and made them hungry as it was a bite a chuck.

the bloke to my left came second with mainly tench/bream and the bloke to my right only had a small bream and some bits.

nice going Rudd. definitely going for braddocks as it seems to work for a lot of people and looking at the site it is very informative and the prices are very good. the last thing i got from my local was Masterlines Activ-8 and that was almost £11 for 175ml and it smelt more lik Bovrol
