When pike are moving in swims during competitions the catches are very small. Stockwood said: “In a recent match every swim upstream had a pike in it and with the water crystal-clear the other fish were too busy avoiding being made a meal of to think about feeding.”

yup thats called fishing

Billingshurst thought that was the end of pike spoiling their quest for other fish in the river. But they are back – and bigger than ever with many in the 30lb region.

was under the impression more jacks moved in ?wonder how that one worked out.

The club is now preparing to talk to the Environment Agency about another cull of the pike. The roach and perch stocks are badly affected by the feeding pike."

what idiot said that. maybe theres an unforeseen problem to their roach situation.

and wouldnt you think, nah lets not get rid of pike the last time we did it, 30lb'rs moved in and made it worse.

Oh dear. Quite a massive failure of logic there. What they're really saying is not, the pike are having a terrible effect on the roach and perch, but, the pike are having a terrible effect on our matches.

I wonder how big these '30lbers' really are :D

How about starting to cull carp, they seem to breed worse than any other fish. :P

How dare you sir! I'll not have our national fish spoken of in that disgraceful manner!

Hopefully soon we'll be able to stock genetically engineered carp which come with a St George's cross on each flank.

person spear heading the efforts for this cull is probably so pig headed he sticks to the old belief they do more harm than good and he will ultimately pay the price when next year he wants yet another cull because the problem is 3 times as bad [sarcasm] with 60lb pike this time :o [/sarcasm]

i once spoke to a guy who swore by killing pike i explained to him why he shouldnt and its proven fact. his reply was i will still kill the f**kers
