Fast flowing rivers

Hi One & All

What methods do you recommend for fishing rivers which, at the moment are pretty full and fast?

Which rivers do you fish? Advice I would give for most of my local chalk streams - might not be the same as the ones you frequent?

Rivers Chelmer and Blackwater

Whereabouts do you fish them ? I thought most of the Chelmer was pretty slow moving, the only real fast water I've seen there are the backwaters below the weirpools around the locks. I used to fish around Ricketts lock untill MAS lost it, the chub used to be found in the back eddys just below the weirpool when it was up, the dace and roach tended to be in slacks behind overhanging trees / bushes a bit further down.

Don't really know the blackwater, but I'd like to fish it one day!

It really depends on what you're trying to catch and whether the river is coloured or clear. For example, if you're after chub in a high and coloured river I'd look for slack areas (and these can be very small) and quivertip smelly baits like luncheon meat.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Good advice

Looks like I may find myself leaving the lure rod at home and cracking out the avon rod on Saturday and trying to find some slack spots.

Just want to be out fishing but don't want to be travelling far on Saturday....hear it's going to be icy/snowy down south!
