If you decide to give it a go, drop me a line and I'll happily PM you travel tips, etc. I'm sure Dales can chip in too with alternate places to fish.

It's not just about fishing though Bangkok is a great city and you can easily make it a two or three centre holiday with a third stop at a proper beach somewhere like Malaysia's Paulu Langkawi.

One thing you do need though is a little time. Long haul travel is a ballache so you really need at least a month to make the most of it.

 

BTW. After failing to find the big cats on the bottom pool the day before yesterday, I decided to take yesterday off, which was just as well because it was freakishly cold. It was 16 degrees overnight and only got up to 19 degrees in the day.

I fished the top pond again today and had another dozen carp to 40lb despite having the worst peg on the pool.

By lunchtime' I felt sorry for the two Americans fishing next to me and changed their rigs, I left them to their own devices once they started catching fish - they both managed carp to 30lb.

Great stuff Ken, it sounds like the extra effort you put in really paid off. The difference in catch rates on those waters can be remarkable from those who work at it and those who just chuck a bait out.

 

I do love those Julien's they are a trully stunning Carp and can be challenge to target.

Juliens are stunning. I saw pictures of fish that were over 50lb each in a Malaysian magazine years ago and they were incredible.

As to targeting them, I've not worked anything out yet, having only had two. Both came to baits fished at a couple of metres close in to the bank. I suspect that baits fished hard on the bottom would work better.

I may have another predator session tomorrow and have a couple of experiments planned.

It spounds like you have caught them in the areas I have come acroos them. The Juliens i have caught have all came along the margins and fished hard on the bottom. I have found they do not seem to take a bait in areas with plenty of action from Sawai and other Carp species. I doubt they are as boisterous as many of the other species in Asian waters and might seek out quieter areas.

If I ever got the time to go and the money to fund it I would definatly contact you for info, thank's for offering to give detailes to me.

I reckon i'd have more than just fishing on my mind if I was lucky enough to get over there :).

Last I heard, he was connected with Palm Tree Lagoon, which is a little north of here.

I've not really looked into that one but I suspect it may be steep.

My experiment failed. Mind you, it was a bad day. Nothing but pacu was caught until dusk, ant then I had a gar and one guy on the other side of the lake hat a redtail.

 

Started today with two carp in the 45lb range. Ended up with 7. Also bagged my best Julien's to date, at a little over 20lb - predictably, hard on the bottom, near the bank in a quiet spot. I also fluked another arapaima in a way that may have been significant - I also had one of the buggers eat my float.

 

It's my last session on the bottom pool tomorrow so we'll see if my new idea works with the big arapaima.
