Paternoster rig

Recommended Posts

For feeder fishing I normally use a John Roberts ledger boom with a running rig. But today it kept coming back with the line twisted round the boom meaning that it didn't 'run'. So I thought of using a paternoster, and vaguely remembered reading about doing this by using a water knot. But an old thread on AN points out this is not a safe rig. Can someone advise a safe paternoster rig. Thanks..

John I get the same problem, for a easy non tangle set up look at the Korum anti tangle set ups, but my advice would be not to secure the rig but have it free running.

Instead of a paternoster use a helicopter rig.

Does the same job but is more efficient (less or no tangles)

Different floats for different folks!

If your set-up normally works alright I'd be investigating why it wasn't in this instance - wind in a different direction, swivel not swivelling, different feeder to usual, anything which was different may have caused the problem and once discovered it can be cured.

I have started to use the Korum Anti Tangle kits that do work very well, I prefer to keep my feeder rigs as simple as possible, and to be able to quick change the feeder or hook lengths. However quick change swivels can add to the snagging problem, with the Korum system that is not an issue. I don't use any fixed or semi fixed methods, although I see some advantages with semi-fixed.

It's a real confidence booster knowing you rig is at least not twisted around the feeder.

Never considered the helicopter rig for feeders, but can see the advantages.
