Handheld radio/scanner?

I'm thinking of getting one for my bug out bag  Is there such a thing that picks up normal radio such as fm/mw but also picks up air traffic, police etc, and also possibly works as a CB radio kinda thing????

I have no idea what or where to begin to start looking.

I think without being a radio ham with a licence your pretty restricted ,you can get walky-talkies type ones but the law restricts their power (they are pretty dire in range even those that are more powerful than they are supposed to be ) usually  like the days of CB full of kids with roger bleeps and arsewhipes thinking they are someone else.

Not had a CB since AM disapeared (or was it FM ? Mine did both!) But i have seen old men with large turnups in their jeans with large aerials on their rusty cortinas so i presume they are still about but i guess the child prey have since got ipads and left the scene to seek a bigger audience!

More scanners out there than you can ever need so no shortage of listening bandwidth ,some very cheap decent looking ones on chinese sites ,for transmitting your decision will be what bandwidth you want to speak on then not using it from home

Remember in a SHTF it wont just be the telephones that go down but most of the repeaters for radios aswell so your going to have to find a powerful radio to get out very far ,in a real SHTF scenario your radio transmitter will be a beacon to others ,best dig a big  hole in your garden fill it with food ,water and a woman and keep your head down till they all kill each other!

Been playing with a sdr radio ,unfortunately living in a valley with a wideband aerial it picks up very little ,the scanner i had in the last house on top of the hill picked up a great deal so you need a big aerial  and a mountain in your bag aswell! I have read somewhere these computer driven (or phone?) Radios in some versions can transmit aswell so google is your friend

I've seen these on ebay, but haven't a clur why it seems to be a muslim one??? (blimey that's a long link  )

Only if your circumcised ,yes plenty of those about in many forms you are limited by your aerial ,i cant hardly get the radio from guildford and its ten miles away !

Read the second one as 3-500 yards lol mine are supposed to be 9km they cannot even reach the pond a mile away unless your at the nearest end on a good day with a following wind ,their only use is at car boots insisting its time to leave to the mrs and her sister! ,300 channels and still you get interference  from passing ***** in cars!

I notice some can pick up marine frequences. I was kinda hoping i'd be able to hear BC off the coast of Whitby lecturing the fishes on how brexit is bad for them.

LOL a crystal radio tuned to anglers net will get that

This is the scanner i had it missed nothing ,the complicated bits were the mirriad of aerials it needed to get it! Surprisingly still expensive for ancient tech

You should have heard what i did !!! A woman i used to work with making arrangements to go to a local hotel with someone that wasnt her husband! People dont understand what was transmitted back then could be recieved by everyone else! Then phones came on the scene and police transmissions were scrambled to spoil it all

Bearcat and uniden are long known makers ,its all down to what frequencies we use here your interested in ,now phones are in use a lot of old school amateurs have gone, its easier to pick up a phone and call someone that sit for days waiting for your computer to catch someone talking to someone else as it flies past the channel .

Theres still hams but they are very aggressive to people butting in on THEIR frequency

If you just interested in listening the SDR radios are cheap as most of the work is done by your pc ,again aerials are the key and mountains help
