specimen gudgeon

Hi all, just wonder if there are any gudgeon hunters out there that can help?

Last year while fishing a local canal for roach, i caught a gudgeon which was 7" long. Do you think this could have been a record? I know the record stands at 5oz i think!!

Congratulations on your gudgeon. I suspect in your area that's a whopper. It's big too down here in Kent, but we're fortunate in having outsize gudgeon like this in quite a few of our waters.

 

I've not weighed any big gudgeon. Has anyone any idea how much Shane's fish would have gone?

As I am at present in Texas, I haven't access to my files of weight/length ratios, so this is from memory. I will check the figures out when I get home.

 

I would expect a gudgeon of 7" to weigh about two and a bit ounces.

 

A record gudgeon would be over 9" long.

 

Because the usual size of these mini species is so small, anything a bit bigger looks huge - but is often well short of the "record"

If it was a gudgeon I would say you threw the record back.A three inch gonks classed a good one by around our way.
