Rattles

Salar

Recommended Posts

I noticed rattles for sale in the Askari catalogue designed for European catfish, and it reminded me I had some rattles in the bottom of my tackle box. On Sunday I went out for a very short session in the Solent and fished four rods from my boat, all baited with squid. On one I put a small bead rattle, two were plain pennel rigs and one baited feathers. The doggies were suicidal and I was constantly reeling them in - but what was noticable was the rig with the rattle had a doggie on within a few minutes every time. Not a great result I know, but given there was nothing much else around the experiment did indicate that rattles attracted fish. Does anyone else use them? For what species? Any experiences to share? Hopefully I'll do some more experimenting soon as soon as I get another weekend pass

I now fish rattles on almost every sort of rig and for all the species I target.

So much of the food critters our targets hunt make that sort of noise and it gives another way for the fish to find your bait.

I even use a rattle with my carp rigs and will give the bait a 1-2 foot pull if no action within half-hour of putting it on the bottom. For that I buy a thing that looks like the barbells the weight lifters use only limp rubber. Hole in the center to go over the line and rattle chambers at each end.

I think most of the rattles made for use with the soft plastic lures will do fine inside a dead bait too. Check http://www.basspro.com and http://www.cabelas.com for the various styles available.

Salar.

I`ve got some bass lures that rattle. I sometimes use `boobie beads` that rattle on flattie rigs.

Some fish, especially in murky water rely more on vibration, than sight or scent?

It`s one of lifes` little mysteries. But then again, yesterdays left over bait would have done the same for doggies.

 Paul.

We don`t use J`s anymore!!
