Cardiff based Admiral Group sponsored the 46th Annual South Wales Open Sea Angling Championships in Penarth last weekend.

Admiral Group gave funding of £500 to Penarth Sea Angling Club, the organisers of the competition, for the competition’s first prize.

The Championship, held on 29th October, was entered by over 240 anglers.

The winner, announced at Penarth Conservative Club after the competition, was Mark Cowell from Llantwit Major, with a catch of 2 conger eels and 1 dogfish, weighing 20lbs, 7 1/2oz. Second place went to Lee Williams from Grangetown, Cardiff who caught 3 mullet weighing 9lbs, 8 1/2oz, and Clive Vedmore from Pontprennau in Cardiff came in third with a catch, also of 3 mullets, weighing 9lbs 8oz.

Admiral donated money to Penarth Sea Angling Club through its Henry’s Pot scheme. Named after the company’s CEO, Henry Engelhardt, the scheme provides financial support to charities, organisations and groups with which its staff or their immediate families are involved.

The donation was requested by Huw Llewellyn, Admiral Group’s Facilities Manager, who said: “It’s great that Admiral gives its staff the opportunity to request money for their hobbies. I know that the donation has been a great help to the Angling Club, and has definitely helped to make the event a success.”
