Catch report – 20-27 May, 2012 by Chay Jackson, fishery manager

Main Lake
The sun is finally here and what a difference it has made, with virtually all species getting caught in big bags. I’ll start with specimen Carp and young Tyler Hackett (15) who landed this beautiful 25lb Common during one of our Carp academy coaching sessions, Tyler had spotted some fish cruising during the hot period of the day and baited were he had seen them, the rod roared of at 0530 in the morning represents a new personal best fish for the Leicester rod.

Common carp

Carl Alford, also of Leicester, got amongst the resident Carp with a 22lb Mirror and Mark Elliot of Nottingham landed a 19lb Common and 21lb Mirror.

On the bream and Tench front, Leicester angler Jonjo Elliot of Leicester fished the waggler from peg 14 on the road bank and landed a cracking 62lb on red maggot.

There have been lots of bags of Bream with weights averaging around 30lb, with the sailing club front and road bank being the better areas.

Lure anglers are still caching plenty around the channels with fish averaging 9-10lb; the odd Zander is also being caught on lures in the evenings.

Boys Lake
The Boys pit has really benefited from a bit of sun, with the Tench finally switching onto the feed.

There have been some really nice bags of Bream, Roach, Rudd and Tench out with anglers fishing the pole tight to pads in the bays having the better of the fishing.

Phil Morris of Melton fished the waggler and corn into 8’ of water to land 9 Tench averaging 4lb and a bonus 2lb Crucian.

Andy Pollard fished for a few hours in the evening, again on the waggler and corn, to land 5 Tench to 5lb.
