With most of the lake being completely engulfed in a layer of thick Ice, fishing has been limited at best, there was a couple of small areas though, namely around the inlet pipe and sluice gates. Fishery manager Chay Jackson took advantage of the clear area and landed 3 Pike to 15lb by float fishing small Roach deadbaits close to the inlet.
With both the main lakes being pretty much frozen for the last week focus has shifted to our stretch of the River Wreake. Those brave enough to get the rods out in sub-zero temperatures have been rewarded with Pike to 14lb, one such angler is Sean Massey of Leicester who, after being frozen out of the main lake, wobbled deadbaits to take 5 Pike to 14lb and a Perch of just over 2lb. Keith Williams of Boston braved some seriously cold conditions to take 4 Chub to 4lb and 2 nice Roach on maggot feeder tactics.
Our new fully stocked tackle shop is now open for business, stocking all the top names including Greys, Maver, Mainline, Chub, Sonik, Solar and many more. As a special opening offer our first 25 customers spending £50 or more will go into a draw to win to brand new Sonik SKS rods worth over £120!
Celtic Lakes Resort, Lampeter, Wales
With the aerators keeping lake 5 ice free anglers have been afforded some winter Carp fishing. Although fishing has been slower than normal due to the icy cold conditions the Carp are still responding to small scaled down pop up rigs. Carl Allows of Lampeter fished close to the island with critically balanced 10mm pineapple pop up’s on size 10 hooks and landed 7 Carp to 17lb. John Hartshorne of Shrewsbury also fished small pop-ups, this time in white chocolate flavour, to land 6 Carp to 14lb.
