Building materials company CEMEX UK, has appointed a new manager, Roo Newby, to head up its angling business with immediate effect.
Roo, 36, will be reporting into CEMEX UK’s Principal Development Surveyor, Daniel Panormo. He joined CEMEX Angling in 2007 as assistant angling and fisheries manager from Burley Aquatic Developments, where he was a consultant. He also has a background as lecturer in Stillwater and Riverine Fishery Management and Creation from Sparsholt College in Hampshire.
Roo will be overseeing an in-house management team and a group of more than 800 volunteer bailiffs who check tickets and police the venues to ensure the safety of anglers and the environment, and says about his new role: “I am delighted to be taking up this position. Following two years with the company, I have worked with fish stock management and looked after the environmental aspects of the business. I now look forward to extending my responsibilities to the commercial side, to develop CEMEX Angling further.”
Roo has a Higher National Diploma in Fishery Management from Sparshold College and lives in Guildford with his fiancée. In his spare time he enjoys fishing, cooking and motorcycle racing.
Roo Newby takes over from Mick Barnes, who left the company last month following a restructuring of the Angling business.
