News Release from Bishop Auckland & District Angling Club

Thirty junior pupils from St. Anne’s primary school arrived at Witton Castle Lakes Tuesday 19th of March for a field visit and to see the bird boxes they had made placed around the lakes.

The pupils with the help of BADAC* committee members Cliff Johnston and Duncan MacInnes have been making bird boxes during design technology lessons. These were put up around the perimeter of the lakes yesterday to encourage small birds such as tits and finches.

Afterwards the school party went to the Linburn Beck within the castle grounds where they investigated aquatic insect life from stoneflies, caddis and mayflies with entomologist Cliff Johnston.

It was a successful visit and the children were very excited to see a number of trout being caught and landed at Witton Castle lakes whilst they were there.

Cliff Johnstone will be visiting the school to introduce the children to fly fishing, with a return trip to fish Witton Castle lakes.
