RESULTS & MATCH REPORT

Held at Great Yarmouth Central & North Beaches on Sunday 11th October 2009

I’m sorry that this is a little late, but I’d like to say a sincere thanks you to all of you who competed, or helped in other ways to ensure that the second Mark Alsop Memorial Match was such an enjoyable & successful day.

Particular thanks must go to Mally & Mary at the Lacon Arms for getting up early to do the Bacon rolls, teas & coffees and for all their help and a really special thank you to Jake Smith and Simon Roberts for getting out there early and pegging the match length. Thanks also to Steve Smith & Joy for helping with the registration and resulting and the fantastic efforts of Hayley in raising so many great raffle prizes.

A big thank you to everyone and I know that Mark’s Mum and his widow Hayley were particularly grateful for your support once again. On the day 47 anglers contested the match and although the weather was superb for fishing, the dreadful weed didn’t prevent us from getting amongst the fish and good returns of Codling and Whiting were the order of the day throughout the event..

Alan DoyFished to DEFRA size limits and catch & release, the winner of the Mark Alsop Memorial Cup this year was Alan Doy (right) with a Whiting and Codling catch total of 7lbs 14.5ozs.

Trevor Elliot improved on his second place from 2008 by filling the runner-up spot with 7lbs 14ozs, just half an ounce behind the winner. Bad luck Trevor, but another improvement required next year

Third place went to Kevin Platford with 7lbs 1oz.

We had more than 50 raffle prizes and together with the donations and money raised from match tickets, our efforts have raised £722.00 for MacMillan Cancer Care Nurses at The James Paget Hospital in Mark’s name.

Thanks once again to everyone for such fantastic support.
