Catch Reports

Goose Green

Jon Taylor enjoyed a days sport on the newly opened Deep Lake at Goose Green, fishing fairly light pole gear, 1lb 7oz straight through to a 20 hook, coupled with a light float and a 4 elastic, Jon advised that he fed a pot of  liquidised bread, but also mixed in some small pellets and a few maggots to his feed, the result, well Jon caught a fish a chuck, mostly Roach, but he also added 3 small Carp, in Jon’s own words ” loads of fish”.

River Arun

Mark Dibble sends the following report after his day out with Dad, Mike on the Arun at Parham on the 27th January,

The river looked a really nice colour & pace, but I think a ground frost last night put the mockers on the fishing a bit. I managed seven Roach (best about 6oz), a Rudd & a Dace. All were taken on float fished maggot using a long rod & Avon style float. Bites were sporadic all day but the two & a half hours before the tide turned to run in were totally dead, not a touch. Improved a bit on the run in after feeding some groundbait. Nice weather though!

My Dad faired better taking a Pike that weighed 20lb exactly after only half an hours fishing!,  ledgered Mackerel was too good for it to resist. It was his only fish of the day but the fight it gave made it well worth while. A particularly strong fish this one!

I have attached a picture of Mike with his Pike

Fishery News – Goose Green

We are pleased to announce that Deep Lake at Goose Green will be open to anglers as of the 19th January 2008, work still remains to be done on and around the lake and we ask for your patience whilst it is completed, our thanks go out to the members who have worked on the lake and made it possible to open it a full, two and half months ahead of schedule.

Saturday the 26th January will see a large consignment (300+) of trees that need planting around Deep Lake and the surrounding area, if you can help with planting, and we will need some help, as we intend to plant the entire consignment in one day, then please contact Chairman Bob or Mark Emery, to let them know you will be able to assist, the more people we have to assist the sooner we can get the job completed, please wear suitable footwear and if possible bring a small spade, as we have limited tools available on site.

There has been some confusion in identifying the new ponds created between the main road and the Tench pond at Goose Green, It has therefore been decided by the committee to rename them as follows

Lake 2 / Bottom Lake, will now be called Heron Lake
Lake 3 / Middle Lake, will now be called Canada Lake
Lake 4 / Top Lake, will now be called Kingfisher Lake
These are all names reflecting birds associated with water that have been seen at Goose Green, the names of the other three lakes at the fishery Tench, New & Deep Lake remain unchanged. To help establish these names and to confirm the existing names of the other three lakes (Tench, New and Deep), purpose made name boards will be erected by the side of each lake showing it’s name
