Youth International Fly Fishing Competition

Scotland’s Youth Fly Fishing Team reeled in a convincing win at the annual Youth International Fly Fishing Competition.

The 14 boys caught 68 fish weighing 152lb 12oz, with Runner-up team Wales catching 48 fish wearing 115lb 11oz.

Each member of the Scottish team caught a fish.  13-year-old Calum Stephen was top Scottish rod with eight fish. Team captain, Max McKinstrie and Robbie Cochrane were close behind with seven fish each.

The Scottish Salmon Company are proud sponsors of the team, Derek Smith from the company said:
“The boys did very well and had a very convincing win. We are proud of them and the hard work and dedication they show which has paid off so well for them.”

56 boys in total took part in the competition in four team, Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales, and they had two days to practise before the event at Lake of Menteith on Wednesday July 27.

Martin Grantham, Chairman of the team, said:

“To win is always nice, to win at home is great but to win at home with such a handsome margin is superb and it is encouraging for the future to see two of the new boys lifting team trophies.”

The English team caught 29 fish weighing 96lb and the Irish caught 29 fish totalling 71lb 7oz.
