The term ‘baitrunner’ is a trademark of Shimano and the whole baitrunner concept is often copied, but never equalled!

I’ve owned my own set of Shimano 8010 GT Aero baitrunners for about 9 years now and have abused them beyond belief in that time, the most attention they receive being an occasional flush with fresh water if I’ve used them at sea.

shimano_baitrunners_101847143.jpgAlthough primarily a carp fishing reel, my own baitrunners have served me well for bass and smoothounds off the boat, as well as bass, soles and other fish from the beach. I bought them to use, not just to look nice!

Cheap Shimano Baitrunners are hard to come by; secondhand Shimanos are much sought after, and shops rarely need to discount new ones, such is the demand! However, offers do turn up and the careful buyer can often bag a bargain.

It’s well worth the wait. Once you own a Shimano Baitrunner reel, I doubt you’ll ever feel the need to switch brand!
