Never mind Dave, I enjoyed that Steve, thanks for sharing.

I've used most of those rods at one time or another. My Dad died when I was 10, and I got all his gear, some of which dated back to WW1, so I started off with a cane rod with a greenheart tip. I had to replace the tip with a solid glass one, after it broke while playing a grayling! Greenheart was prone to breaking at strange times. I had a greenheart pike rod, still have most of it, lost 6 inches over the years, I used it for sea fishing for a while. I also had an all greenheart fly rod, but never took to fly fishing so whipped small 'high bell' rings on it and used it for dace fishing, too sloppy to hit most bites, but when you did, you knew about it, especially when the dace turned out to be a 2lb chub.

I had to smile when JH said "If you caught fish every time you went, then there would be no point in going". I wonder what he'd make of today's situation?

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Never mind Dave,

No, don't mind me - I give permission for anyone to watch it :)

...and very interesting it is too, thanks Steve

Enjoyed the bit re the roach-pole.

I last gave my roach-pole an outing about five years ago, when I used it to catch a bitterling - my 100th UK species, so it seemed appropriate to use a pole 100 years old.

Glad you liked it rusty will be salivating over the old gear on show ,the number match fishing rivers back then must of been something to see ....remember as a kid walking down by the river with hundreds of anglers but I didn't mean anything to me then
