  1. I've noticed , he he. I don't post on there very often, neither on here to be honest , i guess i'm mellowing out and calming down in my ripe old (mid 30's) age. I used to love a good old ding-dong now i just like to sit back and read through the rants.
  2. Cheers Wildcard and thanks for the heads up. Very strange that Glenn is doing this though , he and his members (to which i am one of ) openly state that his site is the best fishing forum around.....hhhmmmmm , i think the jury is still out on that decision with its owner playing tricks like that. All the same , nice pictures and fish , regardless of any fabricated weights they may have been stamped with. Carl.
  3. If it isn't / wasn't a 54lb ling then why post it as that?
  4. Well Ziggy , my opinion is that , we are in a whole barrow full of debt yet we seem hell bent on making our country look pretty and available to all and sundry. Another thread posted up today i think , posted about foreign aid and the giving to other countries yet we are left to sort out our own mess with the jocular 'stiff upper lip' not wanting to give out any signs of being in need and being too proud to ask for any. In the case in question , the pope , personally i think he ought to keep himself over yonder and not bother himself with the brits , as all i can see is when he does visit is a stampede of protestors and antagonists causing a right royal riot about the allegations within his clan. Very well justified for the protagonists i can agree, but it won't bode well for any international relations that maybe on the horizon , but what happens in this country is far and away above my head and has been since the day i was born. A great phrase was put to me the other day and kinds of sums it all up......"you aren't a leader , you are a soldier , you were born a leader taught different" I look at things in a strange and tangable way , sometimes wrong sometimes right but always my way , not led by what i am fed on tv but mainly what i hear from talking to people , many many people. I might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but i'm always there up near the top ready for action. All in all , the popes visit is an utter waste of our money and his/our time , it will only cause mayhem and arguments on both counts. Mr M.
  5. That wouldn't be the baby eating bishop of bath & wells by any chance , Ziggy? I bumped into him once on an episode of herr blackadder....something about a red hot poker put me off though.
  6. Just looking at your link Elton and his visit goes nowhere near my house , boo hoo.
  7. I am at a bit of a loss in trying to understand why... 1. it is going to cost so much and 2. why the taxpayer has to front the bill? With all the controversy over the child abuse allegations within his rank i can't understand why he wants to visit people but on the other hand extra protection maybe needed but £12 million worth of protection?? Then, why do the hard working taxpayers have to front the bill? I for one am not RC neither C of E , not religious in the slightest along with many others i might guess, but we are paying for one mans trip to another country. I wonder if i could apply to HMRC for a free holiday on the taxpayers account? Not a gripe or rant just a confused Mr M.
  8. 54 lb ling.....thats a nice fish , nice fight too i'll bet.
  9. Cheers Worms , i've just managed to put a little video montage together for the lads but i'll share it on here before i head off up the golden staircase...my bed is calling double time. Night night all , enjoy.
  10. June 28th (70 hour trip) The annual outing of the Hemsworth gang was upon us again , along the course of the last 12 months we had lost a very dear fisherman AND friend in Harry Bentham which i’m sure some of the Whitby lads reading this will have known. The trip was a little delayed in departing due to an accident with another party member , Jim Hendry ; he had taken a fall and dislocated his shoulder having him being ushered into an ambulance and taken to Scarborough A+E for x-rays (wish you a speedy recovery Jim) The usual banter was thrown around the boat on our departure along with setting up the ‘sweep’ for the biggest fish!! 1st day of fishing. The call came over the intercom at around 5.55am to get dressed and get ready for fishing , some bleary eyed anglers arrived on deck a little worse for wear from the previous nights drinking , self inflicted and no sympathy!! We were fishing a collection of wrecks known as the “question mark” aptly named because of the layout of the wrecks on the plotter. Plenty and i mean PLENTY of fish coming up around the 8-10 pound stamp on the 1st wreck; just right when all you can see are bloodshot eyes in your so called “fishing gang” shame shame boys tut tut. Doubles were the mainstay of the 2nd wreck we hit , double figures and double cod too. The fishing continued on pretty much the same course all day long and into the night when we arrived at our last wreck at 9:40pm we took around an hour to finish that one off before the skipper said THATS IT BED TIME LADS. Biggest fish of day 1 Dale Price , Cod 23lb 2nd day of fishing After a very long day of fishing the previous day (16 hours give or take) the early shout at 5:00am came as a bit of a mortuary call than a wake-up call i can tell you , especially for yours truely as i did most of the gutting and filleting for our gang of 5 anglers. One saving grace was that the depth of water wasn’t all that deep , 50 – 70 feet at most , easy fishing but boy oh boy do you feel the fish take and run more!!!!! The second day provided pretty much the same as the first day fishing wise but with more and more doubles and trebles being caught. I personally thought i had hooked the sweep winner until i saw the beautiful colours shining through the water as they near the top.....2 x 14lb and 1 x 12lb cod on the same drop , i’m not complaining about 40lb of cod but i would have liked it even better if it only had 2 eyes instead of 6. Going back to our gang of lads , as already stated we had lost Harry earlier this year and the next oldest was Reg Lunn (Harrys Cousin) at the ripe old age of 75 he had never broken his 20lb mark , along with his words to me the previous night that this will be his last trip due to ill health and COPD it was with sheer delight that he did 2 things on the 2nd day of fishing........1 won the days sweep 2 won it with a 22lb cod!!! 2 birds with one stone , well done Reg Biggest fish of Day 2 Reg Lunn Cod 22lb Sorry for the lack of real detail to things guys but i’m absolutely knackered and worn out , it also didn’t help falling asleep downstairs on my return home , definite no no that one!!! Heres a few pictures.... Reg Lunn , broke his duck 75 years young , 22lb Cod. Lol Senior , big double. Rob Ryalls with another big combo Dale Price with his sweep winner on day 1 Dave Easton , 19lb Cod Mr M with a lunker It's thirsty work fishing you know......
  11. The amount of money that these "superstars" earn it should have been all over after their second game. Overpaid and over-rated chumps. If they win today they'll end up being branded as heroes
  12. I've a few Alan , check my youtube page..... just ignore the video of the drunk guy dancing around in his underpants , i haven't a clue who he is!!!! Youtube Video ->
  13. Stu was unsurpassable , unbeatable if i'm honest but not liked by some , the chieftain is a different style fishing 'untouched' wrecks and a slow chug-chug boat make for quite a fishing experience. I made a visit up to Stu's house last month , he still looks his old self ; telling it like it is and as big and strong as ever. Whatever your method , whatever your choice , whatever your ...whatever , fishing is great and enjoyed by all who drop a line in the water. Carl.
  14. As good as it maybe , i don't think it will kick the pants off some in Whitby Alan. I know some people on here may be getting a little tired of hearing the name "Chieftain" but until you have truely experienced a "white wreck" and anglers who know the boat and skipper know what a white wreck is then it is a claim that will have to go a very long way to state that it is better than anything in Whitby. Wrecks holding 150+ stone of cod are common enough with fish coming up 2-3-4 and even 5 a time. By the way , i'm not knocking the link Alan just putting my word across for my favourite boat , i guess thats why they make different flavoured crisps.....everyone to their own preferences. Nice video great fun. Carl
  15. I've had the exact problem but only with AN. I uninstalled firefox and searched google for firefox version 3.5.9 , its the most recent i could find that would still work on here. Its a bit of a b@ll ache just for this one site but hey ho. I also set firefox to notify me of any updates , not to update itself automatically or i'll be back to square one. It's not a cure but a sticky plaster , i really don't know what or why is causing the problem only how to get around it. Heres a link for the 3.5.9 version that still works on AN but there are plenty of others around if you look. http://www.filehippo.com/download_firefox/7327/ Just a thought but seeing as my own personal experience with the latest version of firefox only conflicts with AN could it be a discrepency between AN server / scripts? I really don't have any idea what i'm talking about. Best of luck guys.
  16. A manager at Wal-Mart had the task of hiring someone to fill a job opening. After sorting through a stack of resumes he found four people who were equally qualified. He decided to call the four in and ask them only one question. Their answer would determine which of them would get the job. The day came and as the four sat around the conference room table, the interviewer asked, ‘What is the fastest thing you know of?’ The first man replied, ‘A THOUGHT.’ It just pops into your head. There’s no warning. ‘That’s very good!’ replied the interviewer. ‘And, now you sir?’, he asked the second man. ‘Hmmm…let me see ‘A blink! It comes and goes and you don’t know that it ever happened. A BLINK is the fastest thing I know of.’ ‘Excellent!’ said the interviewer. ‘The blink of an eye, that’s a very popular cliché for speed.’ He then turned to the third man, who was contemplating his reply. ‘Well, out at my dad’s ranch, you step out of the house and on the wall there’s a light switch. When you flip that switch, way out across the pasture the light on the barn comes on in less than an instant. ‘Yep, TURNING ON A LIGHT is the fastest thing I can think of’. The interviewer was very impressed with the third answer and thought he had found his man. ‘It’s hard to beat the speed of light,’ he said. Turning to BUBBA, the fourth and final man, the interviewer posed the same question. Old Bubba replied, ‘After hearing the previous three answers, it’s obvious to me that the fastest thing known is DIARRHEA.’ ‘WHAT!?’ said the interviewer, stunned by the response. ‘Oh sure’, said BUBBA. ‘You see, the other day I wasn’t feeling so good, and I ran for the bathroom, but before I could THINK, BLINK, or TURN ON THE LIGHT, I had already s**t my pants.’ BUBBA is now the new greeter at a Wal-Mart near you! 21. Cheers Ziggy , i'm sure she would have removed it in a blink of an eye , women do like to inflict a bit of pain to men ,he he. All will be well i'm sure , i shouldn't post this but i'm up and walking around already (the doctor advised complete rest for 48 hour) One step at a time as they say.
  22. Thanks for the replies guys , i'll heed your advice wisely. Mr M.
  23. Has anyone had one of these? I've just come back from day surgery after removal of a ganglion on the top of my big toe. Quite an experience to have one done with local anaesthetic. I initially had two jabs of local right down either side of the toe which was rather painful if i'm honest , i usually don't bat an eye with needles but these two hurt a wee bit. The op was a "complete success" according to the guy that did the cutting and slicing , he even asked me on various occasions during the surgery if i'd like to look over the curtain and see his progress....no thanks. He even showed me the part he removed , a little thing which fills up with fluid apparently and according to him was 2cm in diameter across the top of my big toe , the largest removal he has made on a toe before. I don't know whether to be proud of that statement or not................ 9 stitches in my 'hoofer' and laid up for a while , hoping to be fighting fit and fully able for 4th June , Chieftain Charters here i come....hopefully. Mr M.
