  1. I was reading the angling times(yes I do still buy it occasionally)and there was an item about liquid worm, has anybody ever used it,is it any good?
  2. I've caught lots of tench with spicey chicken boilies while fishing for carp, they're just brown,I don't know if bright coloured boilies are better or not. When I fish for tench I usually use red maggots.
  3. common carp 8lb 4,mirror carp 6lb,pike 16 lb 9,chub 4lb 1,tench 3lb 7,I've have never weighed any other species though I have had a few perch to about 2 lb and few brown trout around 3 and 4 lb and eels about 2lb.
  4. I was once fishing on the river and when I decided to move down a bit I met a bloke fishing for pike with a big rubber lure,I asked if he had caught anything and he said he had just had a big brown trout of about 4lb,he said it was a strange looking thing as it had half its tail fin missing,I was fishing with a ledgered maggot and I caught it again less than an hour later .so trout are not very clever I thinks, just greedy.
  5. I tried these last year, but they are made so the fibres all run the same way and its difficult to get a hook through them without them splitting.
  6. when you walk on to a lake or pond and you see tench bubbles, does it mean they are feeding?as I never seem to catch them when there are bubbles .
  7. I thought you could still fish the rivers with a rod and line for trout as long as you only use worms or a fly
  8. next time you catch any you should tell them not to eat the worms the naughty little chub and barbel because they are for the trout,if that does'nt put a label on the worm saying trout only.
  9. I have just emailed lureflash to ask them
  10. not yet.I have just been looking on ebay at some new mitchell reels for round about £40 theres one with 10 ballbearings ,which is what my viper had and that was really smooth,do mitchell make good reals nowadays ,they used to be quite a reputable company didn't they?
  11. I have been useing a steve clayton viper 20 mk2 reel for float fishing for a couple of years,it was recommended by the local tackle shop, its was £31 .99 but yesterday the bail arm spring snapped,is it worth trying to order a new spring or should I just scrap it and buy a new reel?.If I should scrap it what would you recommend I should replace it with for about 50 quid
  12. they probably came from the river in the first place when it flooded, surely its got to be better than smashing them over the head and chucking them in bushes.
  13. I was fishing on a small lake a couple of weeks ago and you could see quite a lot of pike swimming about, some of them were well over 20 lb , a couple of other anglers who I got chatting with said that some anglers kill them when they catch them, the crazy thing is the river calder is less than 40 feet away and is on the same water table so why cant they just release them into the river is beyond me.

I went out fishing this morning, when I got there it was sleeting I only stayed 3 hours ,I was absolutely frozen ,I caught one small roach. With more wind and rain forecast for the weekend it wont feel much like spring.
  15. you've forgotten the real sea gull sh*t splatter as well
  16. I had my licence checked a couple of weeks ago by an EA bailiff ,he was a nice chap, apparently he's quite well known ,mind you its the first time I've been asked.I think too many people are getting away with fishing without a licence,I don't think the fines are high enough to deter illegal fishing.
  17. You've got to have your escape route well planned in case the police and the EA turn up ,especially if its the middle of the night.
  18. How would you find it if you dropped it on the floor in the autumn?
  19. I went down the river yesterday, the water was a couple of foot up after the rain on saturday,I was fishing for pike,I didnt get a sniff on the dead baits I eventually got small one with a plug ,mind you at 6lb10 its the biggest fish Iv'e caught for quite a while
  20. My son is in the sea scouts but I am not aware that fishing is something they get involved in,which is a shame because the scout headquarters is on the banks of the river aire on a stretch that has a lot brown trout and supposedly a 35 lb pike ,best keep quiet about the pike though it might put the fear of god into them when they are all canoeing and up to their wastes in the water, they have eaten maggots though at survival camp, which is handy if hungry and not catching anything.
  21. I have just seen the calendar forecast and the weekend is not looking as bad as they forecast the other day so maybe I might get on the river after all,I was going to go pike fishing at pool bridge past otley,so I will be keeping an eye on tommorrows weather.
  22. I was hoping to be on the river this weekend but the weather forecast is terrible(more wind and rain) so I guess I'll be sat on a still water somewere with my brolly tied securely,ho well roll on june.
  23. one of my workmates who is also a good friend is an avid match angler, now this chap is a genuinly nice bloke but the other day while haveing a chat about a pike of over 30lb thats supposedly been caught locally,he replied that if he caught it he would (if there was nobody looking)smash it over the head and throw it in the bushes,I was totally gobsmacked. His point was that there was no place in the river for the pike because the fish are not that abudant in that area, surely if thats the case the pike wouldn't grow that big in the first place,It shocks me that in this day and age a fellow angler still has this attitude, after all a pike over 30lb would be to me and I suspect a lot of you a fish of a lifetime, the mind boggles.
