  1. John, I will leave other to decide from your previous post, if you sound snoppish and elitist ? And as I did not address my post to you personally, it has to be in your own assumption !! Bob
  2. Well said Dales !! I'm happy to see any fishing show on main line television, sure we have some major purist on this site who are Anti Everything, but getting youngsters into angling has to be a good thing. And to be honest if some of the knockers aren't fishing, what's the problem ? Bob
  3. Yes, as Steve said, nice to see a smile, so many don't seem happy to have caught their fish !! Well done again. Bob
  4. Looks like a good fish, well done JV44. Did you weigh it !! Bob
  5. Sorry John, But I do care about angling in this country and I would like to see it carry on, the me, me, me society foisted on us by a certain female Prime Minister, has led this country to the state we find ourselves in today and that includes fishing. I care that my grandchildren are growing up in a country that does not give a dam about other people or the environment we live in and it's reflected by the attitude of many people with the I'm alright jack position, because I will not be here !! Bob
  6. John, I'm afraid you like me are from a completely different generation and the way we behave is totally different from todays generation. Like you I would not want to fish near any of them, but and it's a big BUT, would you rather see angling as we know it die ? And that's is exactly what is happening to angling in this country, if these type of anglers are not encouraged, coarse angling will die out in Britain in the next 50 years. There are virtually no young anglers coming through in the clubs I belong to and they are some of the best run and well known clubs in the south of England, I have been to many club meeting where committee's are pulling out their limited hair wondering how they can encourage Young anglers into the sport. I have no answers, but if this type of program helps a few youngster try the sport I'm all for it, who knows it might get anglers into fishing and then onto different types of angling and species ? Wonderful Photographs- well done. Bob
  11. A mate of mine has the same problem as me and has dropped a couple of phones in the drink when fishing, he has gone for a waterproof Samsung phone !! I think I'll stick to a cheapie Nokia, I have no wish to be on Facebook or Twitter and only need a phone to make calls and texts. Bob
  12. Some good advice, thankyou !! Bob
  13. Well I have done it again, I dropped the mobile phone in the water whilst striking a fish ? Now I'm quite happy with my old Nokia and a Sim only package, but the whole family reckon I should get a smart phone and become engaged in the Modern world of Social Media. Can other user's tell me why I should join this club ? Bob
  14. Hopefully Anderoo, I don't mind where it comes from as long as it's a river. Bob
  15. Anderoo The Lea fish was weighed in a plastic bag and rounded down by an ounce by the BRCC ? So the Mercier fish still holds the record, a great pity in my opinion, because I think it the Chub Record should be held by a river caught Chub !! Bob
  16. Anderoo, If you mean the Mercier Pit fish at 9lbs 5ozs, it still holds the record. So a Still water Chub still holds the official Chub Record. Bob
  17. I have caught Chub from the 70ty Acre when Tench fishing, I'm sure there must be Monsters in that pit and Landridge use to be stocked with Chub and Barbel every year when The Old Lea flooded, in fact you can see why in the Step by Step book written by Pete Frost. When they straighten the Old River and increased the size of Landridge, there was only a spit of land between the two, now of course Landridge has a river running through it and there are plenty of Chub in it, some Monster as well. Chub seem to bred fine in still waters judging from the small chub you see in the Lea Valley pits ? Bob
  18. Vagabond, I know someone who was chucked off a Traditional Fishing site, for mentioning " Boilies " That's the point I was trying to make, all methods as long as legal are Legitimate and have a place in Coarse fishing, but it appears some don't like that concept. I'm off for Spinal injection today at the National Neurological Hospital (Queens Square) and hopefully I will be fit for a days trotting at the Lower Itchen Fishery on Sunday, if not I will stick out a dead bait and watch a Pike Float all day !! Bob
  19. Lutra I'm 70 in a few months and off course I will always fish the way I want to, within the rules. But that was not my point, half the big Chub I have caught were on rigs that seem to be acceptable to some people, the other half were caught on bolt rigs, which are not, the Lea fish are few and far between, there is 5 miles of water at Fishers Green if you include Kings Weir and the fish can swim anywhere, much of the water is Out of Bounds to angling. It's not for everyone and it's the hardest fishing I have ever done, there is always a chance of catching a monster and good luck to anyone who achieves their goal, they will have earned it !! I spent an enjoyable morning fishing for Chub or Barbel, using a Cane rod and a centrepin reel, I had one Chub, as for bolt rigs, a running lead and a cane rod produces a bolt effect and who has not had a Barbel slam the rod around 5ft using a light lead. Bob
  20. Well lutra, It took me 12 years to catch those fish and as far as I'm concerned I earned them, have a go at Fishers Green if you think it's easy and you just have to pitch up enough to catch one of the big fish ? And of course all fishing is trapping, whether you like it or not, half of the fish were caught on methods like trotting and touch legering. So those would be considered okay by yourself and the rest are not ? And on my Gallery only four of those fish were caught on buzzers and bolt rigs, there not okay the rest are ? There really are some people who believe one method is more sporting than another, I can't see it, at the end of the day we all use HOKS and if you take that argument to it's logical conclusion, it's all about trapping , is it not ? Bob
  21. Anglers Net user might wonder what I'm on about, but it seems to me that some anglers seem to almost despise some Legitimate fishing methods ? It might be the use of Live Bait in the in Predator fishing, preferring to use Lures and saying we who still use live baits are playing into the Anti Fishing brigade, I personally think it's the thin end of the edge, if we give up a well proven method which is not yet banned. Or the use of Boilies, buzzers and bolt rigs for species other than Carp, as far as I'm concerned, all fish species are legitimate targets as long as no rules are broken and the fish you catch are unharmed. Could it be that some anglers put self imposed limits on their fishing methods in the believe that there is more credit to a captor if you are trotting or touch legering ? Tomorrow I will be fishing the Upper Lea using a Cane rod and Centrepin reel, with meat as bait and on the hook, touch legering, Sunday I'm fishing the River Itchin, I'll be float fishing all day, hoping for a decent Grayling. Next week I'll be back on the Relief Channel using Boilies, Buzzers and Bolt rigs for Chub, is any one of these methods any more legitimate than another ? Your thoughts ? Bob

    Huge perch

Dales, I was not fishing it, I was waiting to go into Walthamstow Reservoirs, at the gate in Forest Road, I was feeding the Chub and Barbel by throwing in bits of broken boilies, when this enormous Perch swam under us. The only people allowed to fish that section were the Bailiffs and Water Board staff !! Bob
