  1. Hi, I fish because I like to be in nature. It's nice to relax on the water and to do some thinking, but the best reason of all is, I enjoy it very much.
  2. Nice pictures of great fish and the flowers are lovely. Thanks for posting this link.
  3. That was great. Especially when the snake fell of the tree!!!
  4. Interesting to read, really cool.
  5. Hi Jerry, nice to meet you, and again sorry for the late reply. It's unintentional, I swear. Now to your question: Yes, we do catch a lot of barbel at that part of the Rhein. As you shurely know, the Rhein is a very big river and the barabels, like every other fish, grow quite big there. The biggest barbel caught was 10, 4 kg 570 g and 81 cm, caught by Daniel Berthold, in the Rhein bei Remagen. We catch barbels nearly every time we go fishing there, just like Brassen. The barbels like cheese very much and that is nearly a shure catch, exept for our last trip, but it was just to cold, I guess. Where do you go fishing, and what's your favorite catch and your biggest? How is the area where you fish? Hi Phil, sorry to hear hat about your cat. So she is the same age as ours. We were just lucky that our cat is very strong and healthy for his age. The operation it self was no problem and his eye is getting better now. I can understand your decision, not to have the op done and I hope the tablets work for your cat. What's his or her name?
  6. Hi Phil, I can't believe "German Girl two" is back, but I'm glad, that we can stil chat for a while. Sorry to hear about your cat. I guess your right, it could get expensive. I know how it feels, when you will do everything to make your pet get well again, beause you love them. How old is your cat? Hope, that she'll be better soon. So "Karfreitag", that's how we call that friday before easter is a holiday for you two. What's it called. About my fishingtrip. Like I worte in another topic, we went fishing over night on the river Rhein. It was so cold, like you wouldn't believe. Especially me, small fishergirl, I feel cold even in the hottest summer. We didn't catch even an old shoe, but it was nice, just to be in nature aain, after a long winter. I was hoping to catch a big catfish and then post it in the forum, but now, I can only keep on dreaming. At the moment I'm so much in stress with publiching the book, that I hardly find time to eat. I've already lost 2 kg. That publishing is a part writing, that I don't like so much, even though I seem to have a talent for it. I even was broadcast on the radio on the 4th of april. But know enough of me. What where all you other guys doing over he holidays? And thanks again Phil for keeping this topic alive!!! Patty
  7. It looks like he has a beard, showing it off to his lady.
  8. You sound like a lot of fun!!! So you've had a few good fishing ours after work. That 's nice. I went fishing on sunday to monday night on the river Rhein. It was so cold and we didn't catch anything. But it was fun anyway, just being out in nature.
  9. Hi Wendy, Hope you have a good time here, like I do.
  10. Hi guys, Sorry for the late reply, but my husband and I went fishing on our lake yesterday. Here in Germany the friday before easter is a holiday. How is that in britain. Unfortunately, no one of us caught something, not even an old shoe. But it wasn't really important, it was fun to be in nature again, just relaxing, on a sunny spring day. Hi Ferret, thanks for the cool link about catfish in the UK. That is a very informative swebsite. I had no idea that they can grow to be so big in your country. What are you guys doing on easter? We intend to go fisdhing on the river Rhein, for catfish. We know a nice place by the city called Bingen, where big catfish have been caught. Does any of you know that area? It's very beautyful there. The UNESCO is keeping that part of Germany on the river Rhein as a world-cultural-heritage. I'll tell you all about the fishing trip on monday or tuesday, and, if I shouldn't find the time to write again before that day, I wish you all a happy and very joyful easter holiday. Patty
  11. Hi John, I have to apologize again for the late reply. The Stress doesn't seem to get any less, but at least my cat is getting better. Al right, so your not afraid of the wels, but I know, that I am, if it's a big one. We've treid to catch a big wels, that's suppose to be in the river Rhein close to the city "Ingelheim", but we failled, just like you in the place is called Emberton, maybe your concentration sufford because of the good-looking swims. Patty
  12. Hi Neil, nice to hear from you again. It seems to be forever, since your last post in this topic. So there are catfish in british rivers. That's interesting. Why are they rare in british rivers? Catfish is a very common fish in the rivers of the continent and they grow very big. Is there such a diffrence between the rivers here and the rivers in your country? Some of the catfish here are three meters in length. Last year I went swimming in the river Rhein and during swimming a thought of such a monster, that could be near me, went through my head. I think it only took me a few seconds to get out the water, with shaking knees and a fast beating heart. Hi Phil, so your wife doesn't like insects eather. They are my nightmare too. That's why I like to fish in rivers, even though the rhein has some nasty little mosquitos too. How big can the wels grow in british rivers? Hi John, nice to meet you. Is someboby scared of the big wels? Patty
  13. Hi you british fishermen, I've just got back from my interiew with the newspapers, actually with two newspapers. It was very nice and a new experience. They've asked me everything, from childhoodexperiences to my plans for the future. I can hardly wait, what they'll wirte about me, but I already have seen the pictures the took from me, they're nice. My husband went fiching yesterday evening. He caught a 80 zentimeter pike in our little lake. I wish I could have gone with him, but I had to publish my book in the internet and get everything ready for the interview. Here is a picture of the lake, unfortunately, he didn't take a picture of the fish. How do you fellas like our lake? Hi Davy, thanks for posting the Link, it was very interesting. This was the first time, that I've seen a scotish pound, very colourful with nice pictures. And that to banks started this two currency-system. Hi Phil, thanks for telling me, where the greyling is a common fish. So many rivers, where the greyling exists. ´We only have him in the south of Germany in little rivers of the alps. Here is a question to all fishermen. Where is the wels common in britain? I've heared, that fish would only be allowed in lakes, not in rivers, is that true? Yours Patty
  14. Hi fellas, sorry - sorry - sorry for the late reply, but I'm just to busy at the moment. I even wanted to post a new topic a few days ago, again about fishing, of course - and couldn't make it. You're not getting rid of "lovely" me. My cat was getting better, after the difficult operation, when the doctor had to take out his eye, and we were so happy about his recovery. But now he got the flue so bad, that he couldn't and I didn't sleep all night. I was so worried. He's had so much trouble breathing. The doctor said, that his body has to fight the flu on his own, there's no medication for it, just antibiotics, and the don't help enough. I hope, that everything will be alright. Tomorrow I've got my first interview with a newspaper - interview with a vampire . They'll write about me and the release of my book. I'm a bit nervous, but it's also interesting. I'll tell you all about it tomorrow evening, if it interests you. Now to your posts. Hi Phil, dfishing for Greyling in the river aire sounds great. Wish I could travel there right now and relax during fishing. I think it's great, that the environment agency is stocking more grayling in the river. We would need that here to. It's such a beautyful fish. Is greyling a very common fish in the UK, or is he only found in some rivers? Where is he most common? Hi Paul, so the EA have been restocking more fish in the rivers. What kind of fish and in what rivers and why was that necessary? Hi Davy, it's very nice, that you didn't forget my question about the witches-burning. Thanks for the Link. It is very informative and also a bit depressing, to read about all those women who were murdered. I'll just took a quick look, but I'll take more time for it as soon as I can, and I'm shure coming up with more questions - nowing me. About scotland and england. Thanks for explaining that to me. I've just heared, that the scotish were not so keen about beeing part of the UK, but it's good to hear, that it isn't like that. I just love their kilts!!! But is it true, that he have there own currency? And if it is, why is that? It was nice to hear from you guys again!!! and to chat with you. Patty
  15. I've heared from eggs-Benedikt, but I've never ate it, and it was a funny joke. Patty
  16. Hi Flying Tench, We do had some great composers, my favorite is Beethoven. I like Mozart too, but he is austrian. Who is your favorite composer? Haendel, was very good too, he went to england, where he died, in London on the 14th of april 1759. Hi Tigger, nice to meet you. Then tell me about your fishing, please. Where do go fishing? What was your biggest catch? You've got any pictures? What's your favorite river or lake? How is fishing in your area, and how is the countryside around there? Is fishing over night allowed? What kind of fish are mostly caught there? You've got any tips for me? I like fishing for pike, zander, barbel and I would love to fish for salmon. It would be really nice, if you could give me some tips and answer my questions. Patty
  17. Thanks again, Newt, , you're a good sport. Must make you very tired to tell me british jokes and then explain them to me - sorry!!!
  18. Morning Flying Tench, so you've met my kind before? About the literatur. The british had some great authors through all eras, just like we germans did. It's not just the old english or the english of shakespeares time, that is hard to understand, even the old german is difficult to, but fun to read. Do you have a favorite german author? Yours, Patty
  19. Hi Puzzled. All right. Hembo, that was a bad joke. Hi Newt, I didn't get the joke about the pope. Sorry. Please, explain. Patty
  20. Hi Newt, thanks for explaining that to me. We have the same saying in german, but I didn't now, that it was based on that. Now it actually is funny. Patty
  21. Hi, maybe it's because I'm german, but I didn't get that one! But you've got a funny avatar-picture! No offence, Hembo. Patty
  22. Hi Davy, you fellas are right, the conflict in Northern Ireland is very difficult. Thanks for making the issue more clear to me. But who knows, look at germany, who did ever think, that we would be united again. I hope for a good ending for all sides. Thanks for the Links. That will be fun to find out more about the languages of britain. About witch-burning. It seems to be more mercyful to be hanged then to be burned, even though the endresult ist the same. Why was there a diffrence between scotland and england? I've heared, that the scotish have there own pound and there own parlament. Is there still a conflict between england and scotland today? We have also a lot of witches in germany today, maybe not quite as much as you have in the UK, but witchcraft shurely had a revival. I myself was experimenting with magic. It's very interesting - to think, I would have been burned a few hundret years ago for less then that, is very scary. Hi Flying Tench, The explanation about beeing a vicar was very informative, thanks for that. I've already googled with the name of John Donne and I found a poem called "The Flea". That was actually very nice, a bit funny and also hard to understand for a german. But after reading it a few times, I understood it. Is that old english, in what he writes? The poem "Love" is really very beautyful, I must say. That's why I postet it, so that everybody could read, how touching old poetry can be. LOVE bade me welcome: yet my soul drew back, Guiltie of dust and sinne. But quick-ey'd Love, observing me grow slack From my first entrance in, Drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning, If I lack'd any thing. A guest, I answer'd, worthy to be here: Love said, you shall be he. I the unkinde, ungratefull? Ah my deare, I cannot look on thee. Love took my hand, and smiling did reply, Who made the eyes but I? Truth Lord, but I have marr'd them: let my shame Go where it doth deserve. And know you not, sayes Love, who bore the blame? My deare, then I will serve. You must sit down, sayes Love, and taste my meat: So I did sit and eat. Isn't that lovely, the old times. But very hard to understand. About the pope. Many young people like him here in germany, not just me, but I do because he is conservative. He stands for the old values and for a strong believe in god. To many things in modern life are fast and easy, and he reminds me that everybody must stand up for what they believe, regardless how many people are against it. He made up his mind and stands for what he says. His word is truth to him and that makes him believable to me. About your church. 70 People on a sunday morning, that is for a church in germany hard to achive. I think the mixture of a traditional and new service a very nice idea. You don't find that here, where I live. Only traditional services are done. You wrote: Oh, and we have recently aquired a gunge tank, so if you lose a quiz you are likely to get covered with green slime! That might appeal to you as a vampire! That sounds like a fun quiz, but what makes you think a vampire like green slim. Is the Archbishop of Canterbury married. and do you have nuns and munks in the C of E? Nice informative chat, thanks again, fellas! Patty
  23. Hi Flying Tench, nice, that you replied to my questions. Why do you call N. Ireland Ulster? That's a strange name. And what do you mean when you wrote, but the notheren irish do. Does that mean, they want to be part of great britain and don't be with there countrymen of Southern Ireland. I suppose I was abit unfair to Henry VIII. I know, that, looking back at the old times, one can't judge there behavior with a modern mind. Men ruled the world in those days and before Elisabeth I, they had no idea, that a woman could be a good queen. I suppose in a few hundred years people will think, we today were cruel and cracy too. Talking about the old days. Did they burn witches in the UK too. Over here we actually still have many places, all over the country, where they burned those poor women - the men of the church - even Martin Luther did that. And every first of may, we germans make witches-fires there. How disrespectful of the death of all these innocent women is that. You see, for me, beeing one doesn't rule out the other. Vampires and there world is fantasy and me beeing a christian - regardless if beeing a protestant or a catholic -, that's reality. I can separate them very well. And I'm not the only one here in germany, who has a fantasyworld and a world in reality, but even if I would be the only one, it wouldn't matter to me. My fantasy helps me very much with my writing, and beeing an author of horror-novels that helps me a lot. So you are a vicar. How cool is that. A vampire chating with a vicar. Talking about the catholic church beeing reformed. There are some reforms, that I would approve of very much. Like excepting homosexuality as beeing a normal way of living, even though I'm heterosexual, but I don't want to see priests and nuns getting married. They should love god trough all people. If you're married, you love god through one person. And of course, I want to keep our pope as highest figur in the church. People need a good person to look up to. If a persons chooses that way of life, they know, what they have to expect. I think our protestant church was a bit to much reformed, by our good Martin Luther. That's why I'm thinking of becoming a catholic. I'm trying o find a church, that understands my believe. But that's just my opinien, everybody must love god in his or her one way, as god loves all of his children in his way. That's why I find it good, that there are so many diffrent religions exist:thumbs:, but makes it hard to choose Tell me more about your life as vicar. What is the diffrence between a priest and a vicar and about your church? Thanks for telling me about Jonne Done. His work sounds very interesting, I must read a book of him. You've got anome of one of his books for me. Tell me more about your church and the anglers' way of life, please. That does interest me very much. Do you like the pope? Are there nuns and monks in your christian religion? Who is the highest person in your church? Sorry for the many questions, but I'm so exited, chating with a vicar.
  24. Hi fellas, I have to apologize again for the late reply. Today was just as stressful as yesterday. I've just got home from driving with my cat to the doctor. He's slowly getting better, thank god. I'm so afraid, that he wont make it. This morning and in the afternoon I had to drive to the city "Trier" again, to visite the other bookshopes, that I didn't do yesterday - to tell them about my book. It went well. Hi Davy, thanks very much for explaining me the conflict of northern ireland. I had no idea, that many scots were living there. I always thought scots were catholics, now you tell me there protestants - interesting! And of course Henry VIII had something to do with it. He was a really pleasant man, wasn't he. He was very cruel to his wifes, prefered sons over daughters and now he had something to do with the conflict in northern ireland. He was a crazy king. But we in germany had those kind of kings too. There was "König Ludwig of Bayern". He was a fairytale king, they said. He build "Neu Schwanstein", which is probably the most beautyful castle in the world, after Versailes. But he was really crazy, spend a fortune for building castles, while his people were suffering hunger. Why don't the british let the northern irish people be with there countrymen, be part of ireland, instead of great britain, now, that europe is united? Do they still want to be free? Neu Schwanstein Another few of Neu Schwanstein Beautyful, isn't it? He build much more castles like that. At the end he killed himself in a sea, but they say, it could also have been murder. I guess it was, beeing so nice and normal. Thanks for explaining the cornish language for me and for telling me more about the diffrent tribes, that grew to be the british people. Tell me more about it, please. That is very interesting, that you have so many diffrent languages in your country. We have that here in germany too, but we all speak german, it's on elnaguage, just very diffrent dialects, which can be hard to understand too, and sometimes it's impossible. Did anybody ever went fishing in Cornwall? Tell me about it, please. And is there a digionary english-cornish - englich-welsh and so on. That would interest me. Tell me more about the history of your country. Hi Phil, thanks for telling me more about Yorkshire. Harrogate seems like a nice town. Why is it, that men don't like to go shopping? You said: ...great shops (my wife needs this to be pointed out) and some great bars and restaurants (more important for me). Just like my husband. And I thought it would just be like that with german men. About the churches: How are the modern churches build in england? Here they are so ugly. I like the old ways of building houses and churches! I must agree with you. Northern Ireland seems to be a much nicer place now, then it was in the past. I wonder if catholics and protestants are getting married there? Would be nice, since there both christians and europians. Thanks again, fellas. It's very nice of you, to tell a german girl about your beautyful country!!!
  25. Here it goes, fellas. 1. I once was in Rumania, visiting castle dracula, together with my best friend, and we got locked in over night. That was the most frightening night of my life. 2. While I was living in Louisiana, a poisoned snake – a garden snake - fell from a tree, under which I was sitting, in my lap. I jumped up and run away. I was lucky that it didn’t bite my. 3. While I was driving on a motorway in Los Angeles, with a big cadillac, the hood of the car flew up and bend over my windscreen, driving 70 miles per hour. I could manage to drive to the side of the road without an accident. 4. A few years ago I had a car crash braking my back. Have fun spoting the lie.
