  5. are you sure its not 64mb disk space  if its is memory ram then its cheap enough ,have a look through the manual to see what it can take then fill all the slots ,playing with graphics files needs all the memory you can get ,there is nothing worse than waiting 5 minutes for a picture to load ,64mb is about the smallest you can get away with nowadays ,the more the merrier newt you beat me to it [ 03. 7. this is the only forum i go on (although registered with a couple of others) the other angling sites i visit are in the collectors tackle type ones in my intrepid research type thing away from angling its sites like " www.thegermannaughty.com " to download hard core porn (name changed to protect minors) [ 03. 10. quote: What we used to do to prevent line getting behind the spool was to glue short peices of mono onto the spool edge. Like the spokes of a wheel extending beyond the rim, if you get my drift. I can't remember what glue we used, probably araldite 'cos there was no superglue in those days. It was simple and it worked. See how you get on with that Chesters1 thats exactly what the "rubber" thing looks like ,seems were getting confused with the 507 and the er 507 gold max 2 the latter came onto the market 5??? years ago (after the 1044) hence my annoyance that i can still get all the bits for all previous abu`s but not this one  hopefully the 700 series doesnt have the same rubber band ,i have temporarily got round the problem by fitting an elastic band underneath the doofer thus pushing whats left of the little spikes further out
  11. does this site seem extraordinarily ssslllloooowwww tonight ,its taking several minutes to load each page ,other sites seem fine
  12. do not get carried away and buy a abu 507 gold max 2 as i did ,i have been trying for nearly a year to get the bands that stop the line going into the winding cup ,i can get the stuff (like pipe cleaners) for all the old abu`s but not for the 507 ,a perfectly good reel unusable because of a bit of plastic  even reel spares cannot get it
  13. quote: Good advice again folks, but may need some very good cable for some of the hedges I have to do! Power loss at seven hundred yards could be noticeable. Chesters, if you think the customer is going to watch me dig an acre of land by hand for his lawn, and charge him by the hour, you are on something illegal. two points get a 110v or 240v trimmer and hire a generator ,few proffesional hedge cutters are petrol as most dont work in the summer heat in long usage. i made in the time i worked as a fulltime gardener made 14 acres of lawn ,i tried a deisel rotavator (20hp) it was useless ,they are allright for "tilling" a little veg patch . also whats the point of fluffing all the soil up then having to compact it again  the easiest way is to remove anything above ground (rocks trees etc) poison all living material then get screened topsoil in and do it properly ,dont use a roller they are useless the make the lumps harder and cannot get into the hollows ,a rake and a gardeners shuffle is all thats needed ,for seeding do a little patch att a time sow the seed at 3 times the rate THEN seive soil on top ,it stops the seed blowing away ,it stops it washing away and it germinates quicker i haven got a before picture for these pics but the lawn was neglected from before the war ,it was covered in rhodies to the height of the walls ,a chainsaw and a landrover winch ,and hand tools were the only things used 11 lorry loads of topsoil and ofcourse blood sweat and tears
  14. the university i worked in a couple of years ago pleaded poverty ,but in the five years i worked there the school of electronics changed its name 4 times (more and more departments were almalgamated into one) each time all the headed notepaper was binned all advertising was skipped ,even every doors were painted a new colour (and there was hundreds of doors ) when a new head of department was "elected" the door colours were again changed ,hundreds of thousands of pounds were wasted on carpets from america that covered every floor (these wore out in a few months by the shear weight of students going back and forth) all the carpets were ripped up and now the corridors sport the same 1960`s vynal tiles that were always there ,but strangly not enough money for staff ,when i started there were 12 techs and 3 trainees ,now there are 4 techs ,trainees are a thing of the past
  15. PICTURES pppllleeeeaaasssseee ,dribble
  16. you may be right newt but as you probably notice that us from over the pond have nothing against americans its usually the "top etchelon" that takes the flack never mind newt its not too late to come back to the fold ,now about those unpaid taxes WITH intrest since 1776
  17. you can ofcourse book it to your firms expenses (maybe) i would probably not invest in such a beast ,after all if you charge by the hour digging by hand is lucrative i`m sure somewhere rents them out or couldnt you buy a second hand one ,they usually are used infrequently so tend to be in good condition ,the seller can provide a receipt to show your expenditure ,the biggest mistake is to splash out in the beginning for stuff thats expensive and hardly used sorry to darken your day a lot of the larger garden centres hire them (or know someone that does) dont forget to point out the hire charge and delivery cost to the punter ,you can then add it to the bill . is that a glimmer i see on the horizon when i first started a chap wanted a few old silverbirches chainsawed ,they were brutes on their last legs ,one was very tall and very twisted ,to make sure his acer (ornamental tree) was safe i got my mrs to help dig it up ( mrs = paid secretary (on paper) and unpaid labourer ) whe then put it in a wheelbarrow ran it behind the tree to be chopped for safety and proceeded to hack away at the tree (you can see whats coming next ) yep despite the mrs tugging on a rope to "persuade" the tree to fall in the required direction it twisted and landed on the barrow which not only snapped the branches off one side it broke the barrow the owner was highly amused (he was "assisting" from a distance) so a lesson learnt there .the owner was so pleased he and his 2 neighbours employed me "full" time the tree recovered from its shock (as did the barrow with welding) and is now a fine (tho short) specimin and is pride of place in one of his "veiws" this was 25 years ago the tree can be spotted from a hill nearby [ 30. 20. quote: It's raining, it's cold, the government is a shambles, etc, etc. youve just answered it i think newts holiday remembers a time when you couldnt say it though
  21. i was a self employed gardener in the late seventies , in winter all my time was spent scratching about for work and in the summer refusing it (not enough hours in the day) i was glad to go "full time" for 3 people on a country estate dont forget all those other hassles , stamp , tax , vat (if applicable) ,3rd party insurance ,wear and tear and replacement of tools and machinery ,is it really worth it its no good having cheap tools they just dont last and dont mention mowers (replacement honda 21" self propelled with roller £500 ) if your`e going to go into the hedging side get a large electric one ,theres less to go wrong than petrol ,MUCH lighter ,and THEY provide the fuel make sure your business bank account is completly seperate from your current one ,mr tax man is very blind in money terms to him money is money ,pay yourself a wage from the business account to your current one ,make sure you keep ALL paperwork ,sorry to put a downer on your job ,but i wouldnt like people to make the same mistakes as i did , i got in real deep doodoo not keeping records also dont forget that if you transport tools from job to job your car becomes a works vehicle and MAY effect your car insurance hopefully things have got easier now and i`m sure self employed members will correct me and drag away once again those clouds that i drew over your job well except the honda is now £800 for an inferior machine [ 30.
