  2. no rain in kent or here ,but we can all smirk about the snow you get when we dont
  3. i hope one wasn`t in my mail to you ,nortons does check it going out (i hope) does it say its been checked (just wondering) one was even disguised as a "mail bounce" to a address i have never heard of or even sent to  [ 30 July 2002, 09:36 PM: Message edited by: chesters1 ]
  4. and what a strapping one it was too ,great
  5. thanks jim there doesent seem to be a setting for auto delete on finding a virus ? or is there
  6. we had a great engine on paper ,it was a 4stroke outboard (honda) no problems with water etc unfortunatly it was coupled to a 1960`s Ocean 8 design gearbox and prop ,3 times we used it ,the first time it sheared off a drive pin in pompey harbour (we were towed back to the slip by the harbour police) remember this was a brandnew engine  after returning it and waiting 2 months for its return we tried again. the same fault happend again just outside the entrance to the harbour VERY swift changing of outboards took place and it was swopped for a johnson 40 (very thirsty but relieable) again it was sent away (very expensive)it came back 4 months later with assurances about the pin being "better" the third time it got to Nab but broke down on the way back. looking into the background of the engine we had a few shocks ,in the 1960`s it had a write up in practicle boat owner or somewhere (cant remember exactly) it was the powered by a tecumsa engine (american) the write up was very good especially it being air cooled. our one cost £800 with electric start ,charger and remote controll fittings (not supplied) very reasonable for an 8hp engine ,unfortunatly the chap that sold them seemed (as far as we could make out) operated from a greenhouse in a garden centre in devon? ,the engine was great being a honda (it used 2ltrs of petrol compared to 2.5 gallons for the johnson at the same speed ,it was a sailing boat so couldnt be "pushed" unfortunatly it was tethered to an old design and fault ridden shaft) even brand new stuff is fallible ,what other junk do we trust our lives on we also after selling the boat tried out the flares and smoke canisters ,only 1 of each worked =50% they were still double wrapped and in date) [ 30 July 2002, 09:08 PM: Message edited by: chesters1 ]
  7. just watching this excuse for a program it has a few unanswered points. the bouy that was fixed to the trap isnt it a hazard to boats ? i dont think someone getting the rope caught round their propeller in the dead of night would be amused. why does he bother with chickens ? the cost of fox proofing their run ,and feeding them in the winter would negate any money made .although why the jungle cock ? a maran would do the "job"better and even a bantam would fill the gaps the same with the sheep and cows ,how much land has he got? enough for grazing and hay for the winter. unless you fill your own cartridges pidgeons shot for sale are a waste of time ,good job he`s a cook ,the cartridges cost more than the pidgeon`s worth he was transporting the food in the landrover several laws forbid transportation of foodstuffs in other but a properly segregated vehicle. if he was preparing food for sale has he followed all the regs in the preperation and storing?
  8. i am seemingly being picked on today for this virus (4 today all different senders) when norton quarantines them where do they go ,how would i get nortons to delete then automaticly? ,what happens when their in quarantine
  9. in my gardener roll ,oneday i was digging out an old hedge (in the days before my employer was rich ennough for a kubota) i managed to put the spade straight through a nest ,in the 100yard dash to safety i was stung once ,boy could i run in those days nowadays the wasps would have got bored stinging ,rebuilt and reburied the nest before i got half way wasp wacker 1 wasps 0 ,no sign of activity ,why cant they find somewhere in the fields that surround us instead of the roof  [ 30 July 2002, 06:22 PM: Message edited by: chesters1 ]
  10. could you design one that takes itself fishing ,sets up all the stuff ,waits for a bite ,strikes ,lands and then photographs a pre-loaded picture of me holding the fish ,then after a preset time returns home and tells me all about it. this while i`m fishing somewhere else doubling my chances of a catch your biggest problem would be battery size ,too small and youd be broke replacing them ,i`d say a 410amp 12v system with solar charging should fit the bill . 11. probably better to use a nice 2lb through action if your only fishing 60yds out ,it would be fine in a swim without too many snags and very forgiving
  12. not the method i`d recondmend for the nests in my roof no i didnt find out what version the little ones are ,theres clouds going in and out ,carrying aphids in and wasp crap out seem oblivious to me ,the nest is about 2 feet above my head when walking past it ,1 sting though and they all die ,hopefully they saw the plight of their bigger cousins and are taking heed
  13. is it this one? http://www.swatman.demon.co.uk/story1.htm
  14. catfish havent got feet but those mouth whips sure look fun
  15. all that way for a 20 ,i would settle for a 50 or demand my money back
  16. i got my stuff last year at a seaside tackleshop ,they usually have "bargain bundles" of various prices ,i bought the cheapest 4-6oz combo and lots of weights ,line and end tackle etc and change for £50 ,only being a occasional beach angler it fitted the use i was going to give it ,if you get hooked the sky (and your wallet)is the limit
  17. i have a finepix 4800z its a great camera (although a little large) for web type pics its great ,its macro facility is very good ,on full detail settings it gives a picture of 30+ inches wide and 24 deep ,ideal for cropping (i wish i had a A3 printer to print them out) the colours are very good and realistic ,i must get a tripod for it to do my macro stuff ,its great and i have given my old film camera`s away who uses 500mm lenses every day ,cant wait till the resolution gets upto 10mp and more
  18. dont fancy the hand in mouth bit my hair rig was very frayed ,wont forget my sons face when he netted it in a 36" net (i wasnt cat fishing) and tried to lift it out holding the net at the bit where it screws into the handle ,he lifted, arms of net went down when he realised how big it was he lifted using the mesh ,sent for larger net next day and new bulb for torch (not much use for curved net )
  19. got a wasp nest thats just out of reach and wanna destroy it ? got a telescopic landing net handle? make a telescopic wasp nest whacker . take the handle down into its sections put a small bit of bog paper into the screw part (where the net screws in) using a funnel pour a measure of wasp nest killer into the unsealed end ,carefully (keeping the bog paper end down)reasemble the handle to the desired lenght ,carefully remove paper ,push end to wasp entrance ,blow hard untill lethal load is delivered . top tip 2 DONT SUCK it wasn`t the small wasps it was the naughty bigger versions on the back of the roof ,the small ones are doing fine and send their love [ 29 July 2002, 08:36 PM: Message edited by: chesters1 ]
