  1. Don't get me started guys been fighting the good cause on the Facebook groups all this week! Frightening isn't it? As Ive been saying its NOT angling hes protecting, its not even CARP ANGLINNG hes helping but sadly its himself! Even though he came across quite well in the video Im afraid that I just see every water being carp = every "angler" being a carp angler = more customers. Maybe Danny should spend some of his profits on a fishery manmagement course? then he might learn that a GOOD carp water needs "nucence" fish! I give up! Also in the many years Ive been at this game Ive noticed that a very high majority of the guys who come straight into carping (vast bulk of Mr Fairbrasses demographic) don't stay in it very long! They are also often the most fanatic and vocal........so why are we letting these "fly by nights" influence/dictate the future iof the sport/ a bloody future they enevitably wont be a part off! Madness for angling but perfect for the Carp Machine and those who make money from it. Even if Danny's motives are genuine (probably are as well) why do anglers who are sucsessful (in fact most anglers sucsessful or not) all ways think they know best when it comes to fishery management? In my experience very few do! Simply because for most their motives and aspirations atre just not condusive to good fishery management! Angler want to catch fish and big ones easily at that and so dig emm shallow and stock them to the hilt is their idea of good husbandry!
  2. I've not I'm afraid. I've been so busy recently that I've neglected keeping in touch with everyone! Hope people understand! In reflection I think the "approval" of posts must be the issue. Its been that long since I've been on here regularly that I don't even know if the "old" gang of Mods are still about? Hopefully a good sprinkling of the "Old Skool" ANers will be at Wingham this year so a chance to catch up.
  3. My mate Nate Green has being trying to sign up and post. He seems to have signed up ok but not able to post? is this because his posts need aproving first as he's a new member or is there a problem?
  4. Just a quick one. Im afraid Im not going to be able to loan out any beds, bivvies, tackle this year as a lot is packed away due to us moving. Sorry about this guys.
  5. Been plenty coming out of Wingham for the past month.
  6. Been interested in these for some time aftyer seeing a video on U Tube. As is often the case these days just never got around to trying. As such be really interested in how you get on with it Rusty.
  7. Judging by the rubbish a lot of the newer members post its no wonder people moan!
  8. Lots of different ones so you the customer will buy "lots of different ones"
  9. Jim Gibbinson "Clooper" carp rods (and the Muncher Pike) were made by Going Brothers of Southend and their claim to fame was that they were the first "production" carp rods with abbreviated handles! great rods as well. Im feeling a bit sad now looking back as in them days Carp fishing was the tops and sadly todays "carp fishing" is a thousand miles away from what it was!
  10. I would have to say size 6 as well. Had plenty of accidental doubles on size 6 no problem and as mentioned don't pull the hook.
  11. Best carp pics and story Ive seen in ages Chris, takes me back to when it was a lot more "real" thanks for sharing t
  12. Other than a few acsess/parking rules that the landlord insisted on my Syndicate on Heartbreak used to have only one rule- "No member to act in any way that will detract from another members enjoyment or use of the water"..............simple as that really! But like Wingham now we had a long waiting list and ALL members were vetted and interviewed before acceptance, With like minded, well selected members there is very little need for restrictive rules other than ones that are venue specific (such as acsess/parking/boat use) that are actually conditions of the lease.
  13. I always had a fancy for a trip Eeling in New Zealand ever since one of my customers sent me a photo of an eel he used the catfish net I made him for. I've not got the photo on this PC or Expansion drive but I'm sure old timers on here will remember me having posted it before at over 20lb! Never got around to it with one thing and another so sadly the "one that got away"!
  14. Before they were revamped and renamed "Bolognaise" rods were very common with German anglers in the 80's when I lived there. We called them "Big Bertha's" They were heavy telescopic afairs of around 7m. BUT were very good for controlling a heavy trotted float on the big powerfull rivers such as my then local Weser. We (Brit squaddies into match fishing) soon (despite taking the pee out of them) saw what an effective tool they could be. We made our own out of early Shimano EX poles by whipping rings on and Fuji plate reel seats. We usually coupled them with pins and fished them held across the knees "Pole style" to take the weight the pin would be mounted quite low on the butt and controlled with the bottom hand as opposed to the top. Playing fish was a pain for sure if you hooked into a barbell or big river carp rather than the normal target bream or roach. Our versions were certainly easier to fish with BUT the old Kraut "Big Berthas" with fixed spools and traditionally placed reel seats were a lot easier to play big fish on. With a modern Bolognaise rod using decent modern carbon I wouldn't expect (longest trotting rod I own is 17') them to weigh anywhere near the weight either the Big Berthas or our converted poles did however (I think) what your getting at is more the problem of leverage? For this I would suggest the Germans method of putting the butt into the groin and holding the rod (with the non winding hand) as far up the blank as possible would help. Keeping the rod at a low angle also helps reduce the leverage against the angler as you are (once bent) effectively shortening the length. So no answers as such Im afraid but hopefully some things to consider and work with!
  15. I browsed it in the local Tescos while checking out our mention and was well impressed! yes there is the towel issue but all the other factors made it for me a "feel good" capture.
  16. Ive seen this as well mate but of course being an untidy angler wont make you a better angler! but I think being tidy and organised will! A lot of it for me though is a confidence/(I don't know what the word is! but "feeling right") thing. Sat behind an untidy set up (mainly crooked banksticks) for any length of time just "irritates/offends" me! daft maybe but better to spend a few minutes sorting this simple "distraction" than to sit there with it winding me up rather than concentrating on far more important things! As I said a bit of OCD possibly! But I do think there is a case for being tidy and organised especially at night. But accept that there is a difference between having everything "lined up" and being organised,
  17. Yes it would definitely have to be level and all lined up Dave!
  18. LOL no mate all good Im pleased to say. Had a gastric by pass back end of June last year and now down (from 27 stone) to just over 19. Feel so much better, Diabeties problems nigh on gone and even on my worse ME days still able to function. Right result!
  19. Im not far off! But blame it on a combination of a military back ground, being a trained draughtsman and borderline OCD!
  20. So then what exactly do people think is "wrong" about this video? I saw no sign of damage on the fish this guy caught (unlike I do here in England on many top waters fished by "expert" "caring" carpers? As others have mentioned no different to "hit and hold" snag fishing or "handlining" with margin poles during matches on comercials? But hey how daft of me I seem to have got that only Brits who have been fishing for five minutes for carp (and nothing else) know anything about carping! Yes lets just slate Jonny Foreigner and tell him what he should be doing in his country.....................and some still wonder why this once fanatical carper don't anymore?
  21. The ultimate in "Hit and Hold"! Huwje Karp ok? Im going to slap this over all the "carp" pages on FB and listen to them squirm and pontificate!
  22. Despite the amount of water the colour don't look to bad does it!
  23. I think the Spring campaigns going to be good this year....no longer have that massive walk to the Coarse lake as its a lot closer to the club house now!
  24. Strange enough after wasting £s on carbon tube I settled for umbrella ribs as well! However ALL my experimenting came to a halt once it dawned on me that Paul (Tinca Tinca) was 100% right with both the physics and mechanics he had been trying to get us all to see from nigh on day one of this epic topic! Once he showed me the first "finished prototype" it all became clear! A lot of us at Wingham took on his "Swinghams" (which he kindly made for a lot of us) and between us all and our fiddling here and there with them to get the "perfect" set up for each of us we must be well on to the Mk 20 odd by now! Now he's retired and got some more time on his hands (bit of a joke really as every time Ive spoken to him since retiring hes up to his neck in one project or another!) we should get him to address the problem previously mentioned ie wanting "long drop" indication when you only have a "short drop" available. Drag Den Darkin (Poldark) away from the beach, chuck in Proffessor Kappas scientific input and Anderoos enthusiasm and I reckon we could have a winner!
