  1. OP-JB, quote: “I'd need to see those thirties before I gave it time” I know what you mean; it’s a big water to go at, for a relatively small head of fish. I go to a rally-club meeting most Monday’s at the Royal Oak, just up the road in Ruston Spencer. A guy I’ve met in there a few times has had a few carp out over the last couple of years, and I’ve seen photo’s of a 28+ he had a while back taken from the big bay on the west bank opposite the railway bridge, though most of the other fish he’s taken have been doubles – quality fish mind. I’ve often thought about doing some time on there as it’s on my doorstep, but there are too many other alluring waters close by – Capesthorne Top Pool for a start ! Singy, A cottage on the bank side, eh? – Sounds very nice! Is it near the Lady Of The Lake on the west side as I know there are some no fishing areas as far as the clubs concerned? I remember seeing the boathouse up for sale last year in the Estate Agents in Leek, from memory it was about £55k..!! And was advertised as having “great potential”, I reckon that would make a nice fishing lodge, though I don’t think it would sleep many – it was tiny! SOTAS do enforce a close season on Rudyard for it's members, but you can fish right through on day ticket. Cheers, Julian

  3. Hi Singy, Assuming your talking about Rudyard Reservoir in Staffordshire, then it’s a Stoke-On-Trent Angling Society Water, although it’s owned by the Rudyard Lake Trust and can also be fished on day ticket. The water is known predominantly for it’s silver fish, with massive skimmer bream shoals averaging 1-2lb, with specimens to 8lb. There is also a good head of roach, and they stocked a massive amount a year or so back. The pike show well in the shallows (North end) with many fish around the 15lb mark, yet fish to over 30lb are present. The Perch average 2lb+ (plenty of’em) and fish to over 4lb are not uncommon. I drove past the other day and it seemed to be quite full (of water), I reckon its probably around 170-acres at present – so location is key. I keep threatening to have a crack at the carp in Rudyard, as there are rumored to be a couple of 30’s in there, but I think the largest out last year was high-doubles. Boat permits are required, but I’m not sure if this applies to those taking their own boats on. There could be a few on next week as society members who have done there work parties are allowed to fish on club waters from 1st June onwards, but as it’s over 2miles in length it shouldn’t be a problem . I think you can fish upto 4 rods. Hope it helps! Julian

  5. Quote; need to be large… I'd like a porch… easy to erect… sturdy in the wind… silent in heavy winds… turn without having to empty and unpeg it… a decent satelite dish bracket… Sounds like you guys need a caravan Mind you Elton would still want an awning on it to park his car under Seriously though, for me it just has to be sturdy, durable, and light. This year I’m adopting a ‘roving’ approach, so the Titan will be left at home to make way for a new Aqua brolly, so it's gonna be a 'no-frills' season for me! Julian
  6. P Eye, Simple as, mate! After rolling just chuck them in an air-dry bag. The less you put in at a time the better, as this allows better air-flow around the baits so that they can dehydrate at the same level. You can get various types of bags, small ones for hook baits and larger ones to take several kilos. You can dry them for as long as you want, but be mindful that the longer they are dried the harder they get. Cheers, Julian
  7. Hi Tyke, If it’s on Marsh Lane, then I think the one you’re after is East Halton Fishing Lakes (also called Winters Lake). Mixed fishery with bream to 6lb, tench to 5lb, and roach to around 2lb. Think it’s around £3.00 per day, but best to call and confirm: 01469 540238 Cheers, Julian

  9. Hi P Eye, Have you had a look at University Broad, nice water, and nice fish! Carp to around 30lb, and plenty of them: http://www.uea.ac.uk/~e419/ueasaac Or maybe Bawburgh? Cheers, Julian
  10. Hi Howard, Aqua Vista do a range of Overwraps for 60” brolly’s. I think they also do cheaper ‘seconds’ items as well. More at: http://www.aquavista.freewire.co.uk/page9.html Cheers, Julian
  11. Hi Piker, Yes, I think they have just introduced a rolling service, Darren should be able to give you more info on: 07976 842232. For what it’s worth, I fished a carp match at the weekend, and first and second place both went to fish caught on their bait; British Bull Crab. Cheers, Julian

  14. OK then chaps, How about Wyreside Lakes & Fishery, Lancaster, Lancashire. I think there are around 6 lakes on site with 4 of these specifically for carp. Not hole in the ground stuff though, these are quality, well-established waters – and big too. The carp run to around 40lb, and there’s plenty of’em. Some of the fish are stunning specimens, photos and details at: http://www.wyresidelakes.co.uk/ Also there’s St Michaels, in Preston. It’s actually day ticket, but a yearly membership is available, which allows you to reserve pegs and take guests, etc. Some cracking fish to around 40lb. More at: http://www.wyresidefisheries.co.uk/index.html These any good? Cheers, Julian
  15. Yeah, yeah, yeah… Fish like that… ten a penny where I come from I’m not jealous, honest I’m not..!! Absolutely cracking fish mate , and well deserved. Julian
