Yes George they are similar. I might just have a go at making one..........doubt it though I've not got much patience at the best of times
  2. If using a fixed spool I reckon the drag would need setting pretty slack to compensate for the lack of line stretch(buffer) to help stop hook pulls.
  3. What....like you and me for starters
  4. That was a joke by the way..........I know it's not a Discus fish I wish I had caught it, it looks very impressive !

The drift beaters and the pheasnt tail antennas caught my eye, I think they could be used for slider floats perfectly.

Thank's Chav but those floats don't quite look ,like the ones I meant. The ones on the site George put up would be nice, I really like those .

Yes, there are some lovely lookin floats there George. Do you have to buy the box sets or can you buy individual floats off him ?

Yeah they do Toady, Middy also do one called a drift combatter and I have both but I like the look of the one's I told George about, John Wilson used them in one of his programmes where he had a bumper catch of specimine bream float fishing from a boat on a secret gravel pit (jammy bugger). There are some Ultra slider floats on the bay also but they just don't look as appealing to me.

George, those Duckers look similar to a slider float (still water float). I like the slider floats I told you about made for John Wilson by the chap who you said was sadly now dead. They where painted orange/red at the tip and black and white under the tip (like a pelican crossing signal post). Have you seen the type I mean ?
  10. I'd say a semi fixed rig combined with a baitrunner, bobbins/swingers and an alarm.
  11. I'd say it's the cold snow melt that's the problen as the rain water should be quite warm in comparison and when the snow melts gone then the rain should help warm up the rivers and maybe get the fish lookin for some jack bit.

I just don't like the bent stem of the feather and the pointed top. I like a straight stem and top the same thickness to the end rather than tapering like a feather does if you know what I mean. I suppose eventually I'll get some off yourself and give then a go

I like a float taking about 5bb's and having a carbon stem. The Woody range are good but they have wire stems so i prefer the Steve Maher floats, there spot on for me at least ! I think the ones I prefer are called bolo floats.
  14. I just found a swan Today with it's head and neck chewed down to it's chest, a fox had chomped it and left it. All it's flight and tail feathers where intact. I'll have a nosey tomorrow and see if it's still there.
  15. I breed Macaws (parrots) and have often thought about using their moulted quills for floats. I usually finnish up throwing em away though. I think fly tyers use them also as they have pretty colourfull plumage.
  16. Best times gott'a be mid winter before the sap starts rising, the pith should be at it driest, then it should be at it's driest before you dry it...if you know what I mean
  17. It's not one of those wooden type jobs is it ?
  18. The 1915 aerial...................it must be......................
  19. Check this little bugger out 290391545234 ......a bit small but very very nice indeed
  20. I actually have one of Richard Carters pins (the aerial gem) and in all honesty it's my favourite one out of the reels he made, I know it wasn't his most expensive but I just prefer it to the others. There was a match aerial reel of his on ebay the other week but I don't know what it went for, I preferd the looks of the origional Allcocks match aerial myself. I belive you've sold yours! Not be long and you'll have sleepless nights over that
  21. I used to use power pro in 8lb with a gut bottom attached via a micro swivel but reverted back to mono as the horrible noise going through the rings went through me.
  22. Yeah...I'd prefer your aerial perfection aswell....
  23. I put about 100yds on normally as I often trott a line well beyond 50 yds and like to have reserve if a good fish takes line. As I use cheap and cheerfull sensor I can re spool after every session so have nice new line most of the time.
