    Which paddle

Hi, right, now I have the kayak I have to kit it out over the winter ready for next spring so loads of questions. I'm one that will ask if I don't know and ask those that I do know what they are talking about! Went out from Lulworth Cove, lovely in the cove but as soon as we got out we were straight into white water and could tell it was a force 4!!! I had second thoughts as a 4ft wave headed straight at us but the kayak was a solid as a rock and gently glided over the top. Went over to Durdle Dor but not through it because it was too rough. Loved it and cant wait for the next trip out! I have to point out that I went out with a very experienced sea canoeist friend. I had every confidence in Steve and only took a few big waves to give me the confidence in the yak. We used some of Steves paddles which were 215s but both agreed that I need longer ones. Does anyone own a Tarpon 130t or a double, if so what length paddle do you use? I've a feeling paddles are like rods and a personal preference but would like to know what others are using for fishing. As a complete beginner to the world of sea kayak fishing then all help and advice is gratefully received. One lesson Steve taught me was that if I couldn't get back on it in open water then I was not to go out! I managed to get on but as I tried to roll over to sit up I caught the front seat and tipped the yak rolling straight off and back into the sea!!! I did it on the second attempt though. Thanks in advance lyn

  4. whoops, can one of you 'mods' delete this please!!
  5. Well the day is nearly here to go to Somerset and collect my Kayak, a tarpon 130T. Staying down in Dorset with friends for a few days and the yak will stay behind when I come back. My friend is a very experienced sea canoeist so going out with him for a few trips before I 'go it alone' as I've not been on the sea on one before. Also will take Liam down for a couple of trips out with Steve as well. Really looking forward to getting used to it before I start fishing, probably next spring, depending on the weather. Soooo excited, can't wait for my first fishing trip. lyn
  6. An update on Alice. The NHS has still not agreed so a charitable trust has offered to fund her treatment. The petition has gone viral and now has over 152,000 signatures!! Thank you sooooo much all that have signed. For more info go to Change.org and browse for Alice Dann. All the updated info on the trust etc is at the bottom of her page. Thank you again. She has her first treatment this week so we are just praying it works!
  7. My boss got details of the syndicate and had a look at it but said she didn't fish enough to justify the 5 figure sum they were asking. She is a member on the beat below the bridge now and has had some cracking days there. I think I enjoyed Timsbury more for the social side than the fishing! Hope someone has managed to sort out a day for the Itchen. lyn
  8. I so miss the Loddon at Standford End. Had my first ever barbel from there, just love that stretch but alas I shall never fish it again. I have the 2nd week of November booked off just to go fishing, well apart from a sneaky day trip to Scilly on the 8th! Just treated myself to a kayak, collecting next weekend, a couple of trips out on the sea with an experienced friend as I've never been on the sea on one before then it's anchors away!! My barbel fishing buddy is hoping to get a couple of days off so hoping to get down Christchurch way for the Avon or the Stour or both!! Can't wait!
  9. PS just seen your previous post. Bit to far for a day out! Might be up that way in January so may put the yak on the roof!
  10. I'm shortly to embark on some kayak fishing so it would be nice to have other people to go out with. Where is Five bar gate or what area do you fish? Thanks lyn
  11. I was!! I was driving home with the dogs and a freak storm just pushed a very large oak tree over like a matchstick straight down on top of me. The branch was touching the windscreen. It knocked the engine and dashboard down onto my legs, by some miracle the dogs and I got out pretty much unharmed. I was very 'twitchy' about today and didn't go far!! Tight lines for Friday
  12. I'll be staying in Tuesday, I don't like it out in the wind since that oak tree fell on me and crushed my poor little car!!
  13. Hi Bob thanks for signing, see an earlier quote from me, They don't want any donations, I think it must be a standard thing that is put on there. lyn
  14. ayjay, I think with anything, the more people you have behind something the more clout it has. In this case the local radio stations and BBC South today, if it only had a few signatures I'm sure it wouldn't have had such an impact. The fact there are nearly 6000 people behind Alice I'm sure it will make the NHS and Jeremy Hunt take notice, well I for one am praying it will. Her mother is such a very dear friend and it has been awful to watch how this has torn her and Glyn apart and I really worry about Rosemarie as it's taken it's toll on her. That is a Mum thing. When I was visiting another friend this year that had just had surgery for breast cancer her mother came round and as she was leaving I gave her a big hug and said I really wouldn't want to be in her shoes because not only did my friend, her daughter have cancer but her son is terminally ill with it as well! They are both in their 40s, no age. Alice has every chance of being cured by this treatment because of the type of cancer she has which is why I've joined in this fight for her, she has a chance which a lot don't have. We've lost a lot of members on here, such nice people, I lost my Dad to it. This is why I will 'stand up to cancer' and try and help my friend, lyn
  15. ayjay, Jo, Alices niece put the petition to run for two week in the hope they would get a thousand signatures. It has gone 'viral' and every time it reaches a target it gets increased purely because it has only been running for 4 days! So please sign. They do NOT want donations, Both her and Alice have been on local radio and Alice is ON BBC South today tonight starting at 6.30. Sky 964 if out of our region. Please keep signing as with anything the more the merrier. If it gets enough publicity and the fact that Jeremy Hunt is also a local MP then we may just win him over!! Thank you all again Lyn xx
  16. There are several bidders after it as well. How can they confirm it's his other than a picture in a book?

    Tony Miles

Tony put an update on FB yesterday, told him I would copy to here. Many thanks to all those who are contacting me, inquiring about my progress since the heart attack. I am doing well and earlier today was assessed at the cardiac clinic for a progressive fitness programme. Next week I start at their specialist gym, attending twice a week for 8 weeks. Should be back to full strength after that and will be looking forward to fishing again in the new year and being able to chase Fran round the bedroom! All the best and tight lines, Tony
  18. Norm, I didn't see anything about donating will have a look. No donations wanted. Dave K sorry to hear you've had it but sooooo pleased to hear you 'Stood up to it'!! stay healthy xx Here's a msg from Jo, Alice's niece who started the petition. Thanks to all of you that have signed so far, if you haven't please sign and better still share with your friends/families. It has gone viral!!!! Alice is a teacher so her pupils and school etc are all signing. The response has been amazing and I can't thank you enough, Alice has been interviewed by local radio and now the BBC wants to interview her along with her oncologist. This is thanks to everyone of you that has signed the petition. Our voice is getting heard and we live in hope!! 6 Oct 2014 — Hi Everyone, I know you must be getting sick of me by now, but we have broken through another mile stone and now have over 3500 signatures, in just over 2 days! The support for Alice has been incredible, and because of your support she has now been asked by a magazine to do a story on her and a local radio station is going to be interviewing her today!! These things would not have happened without your support, without the signatures, the sharing on social media and word of mouth, you guys have been incredible and we cannot thank you enough. So our goal has been made higher again byChange.org, it has gone up to 5000 signatures...can we do it?? YOU BET WE CAN! Thank you so much for your continued support for Alice, it means the world to us, but please keep this going, keep sharing the story, so more and more people can be made aware of what is happening and we can get more signatures on this petition. THANK YOU xx PS Jo put he petition to run for two weeks in the hope that they could get a thousand signatures. Each time it passes a milestone the target goes up to keep up with it. Thank you again xx
  19. Hi all, hope you don't mind me doing this Elton. My friend has a rare type of cancer which is curable. She is allergic to chemotherapy in that she actually died when they first gave it to her. There is a drug which is available but the government wont fund or licence it. Alices story is attached. I know this is close to home for far to many of you on here including myself. All I ask is that you sign the petition to try and help my friend. Thank you Lyn xx http://www.change.org/p/jeremy-hunt-change-the-decision-to-fund-cancer-treatment-for-alice-dann?recruiter=20003849&utm_campaign=signature_receipt&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_petition
  20. Well done, tha'ts fantastic Steve. All the hard work paying off again!!!
  21. A pair of otters were introduced/put on the Kennet at Burfield when I fished there some 15/16yrs ago. We had to keep quiet about them but as I knew where the holt was I knew where to look for them. I'm surprised they haven't multiplied somewhat by now.
  22. Good luck tomorrow everyone. Will look forward to reading the catch reports. Gutted I can't go.
  23. Some people I work for go all around the world fly fishing. They have loads of rods and reels but I will mention it to them Thursday. If they are not interested then they may know of someone that is. Will also let Tony Urwin know incase he's not looked in recently. Good luck lyn
  24. Thank you soooooooo much Steve, or maybe not!! No seriously you cost me a lot of money today but the smile I've had on my face all afternoon has made it worth while! I secured the Tarpon !30T. I offered what he was advertising elsewhere and he removed it from ebay. It's down nr Exeter but going down that way in a couple of weeks and he's more than happy for me to collect then. Liam just thinks it 'cool' Matthew questioned me spending the money but I pointed out the two of them had 'gone' it's my time now!! lol Thanks again for the advice and help. Will have to look at paddles now! lyn
