  1. I found my son Liam a set when he was about that age. It has a 8' rod and reel etc came with it. If he can handle a spinning reel it my be worth either putting a single mackerel feather on or a small meps and let him try a bit of spinning. They need to keep occupied at that age to stop them getting bored. He will probably have as much fun with a crab line. lyn

It's a member of the shark family but I think my little sister would fit your description of a tope as she could drink me under the table anyday!!! lyn
  3. Hi all, I'm going over to see my sister at the end of May and would like to take my nephew tope fishing. Anyone on here from that neck of the woods? The boat would need to supply all tackle as I will now be flying over thanks to the postman writing off my car this week with me in it!! Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks lyn

    Finally!

Well after two years of absolute crap fishing on the rivers to the point I felt like 'throwing in the towel' in one afternoon my confidence has been restored. My fishing companion and best fishing mate suggested we go to Aldermaston Mill, I've not fished it since before Liam was born. Anyway, asked my ex for some bait which he kindly gave me. I was late as usual having had dogs, chickens and ducks to sort out! Dave was fishing by the time I arrived and on a nice little weir pool which did look promising. Nothing happened for ages then I had my first chub, I was hoping as we put it on the scales that I may have just got a PB (4.8 previous) but sadly no, still a nice chub of 4.4 to start the day and the first decent bend in my rod for years! Second fish I done a double take on when I got my first glimpse of it as it neared the surface it was so fat it looked like a carp!! As I netted it I shouted across to Dave that it was fat like me! lol I knew this time , without a doubt as I lifted the net, that after 10yrs I have finally broken the 5lb barrier!! 5lb no it was 6lb 6oz!!!!!!!!! I am still grinning from ear to ear! :D I didn't stop there. The bailiff came round shortly after I had put the fish back and said we would be better off fishing further down as this pool never produced anything!! I told him I was quite happy where I was and told him what I'd caught he was quite surprised. My final fish of the day weighed in at 4.11 so broke my PB twice in one session. A great early birthday present from my fishing mate for the day out and the drink in the pub afterwards. Looking forward to tomorrow to see if I can have a barbel out somewhere. Any suggestions of day ticket waters that are fishing well would be appreciated. Tight lines to everyone fishing the last few days. lyn
  8. It helps if you put where you want or would sail out of. There are people posting on here from all around the world so if you say on the south coast or east etc it would narrow it down a bit. I'm sure you will find one, there are always skippers about that will do shark trips. lyn
  9. I'm good thanks, you? Yes the report said caught in August off Scilly then said caught again 17 months later, so not sure which year it was caught off Scilly. Still amazing to think its traveled that far. Another caught last August was caught off the coast of America but they are waiting for conformation of that one. lyn
  10. A blue shark caught and tagged off the Isles of Scilly has been caught off the coast of Africa 250 miles west of Sierra Leone, 3,300 miles away!!! Will be having a day out shark fishing when we are over there this summer as Liam is big enough now plus seems to be finding his sea legs!!! lol lyn
  11. There was a lot about the effect the lack of water is having on our rivers and lakes on BBC 1 Inside out South last night. (Monday) The spring that feeds the Itchen has dried up, it's well worth a look on iplay. There was also a bit about the Bristol Avon and otters even had Martin Bowler on there but I felt he didn't come across too well. All in all a good programme that really high lighted the efffect it is having on , fish, fishing and the eco system. lyn

    Please Help

Done, had my first barbel from the Loddon and used to run my junior barbel days on it so it had to be that one
  21. The word Landrover on it adds a few hundred. It's not a lot of money by todays standards. Matthews bikes are always worth more than my car!!!! lol Mind you that's not difficult. His lastest road bike cost a £2/3k he never tells me exactly how much, mind you he nearly got killed on his old one when someone didn't stop on a round about and ran straight into him. The damage to the front of his bike was £1200s worth!! Luckily despite being thrown in the air he came out of it with bruising. The bike can easily be replaced!! lyn
  22. Jan Vail - you were one of a kind. One of the kindest people to have graced this planet. Those of us who knew you are better for having known you, but feel that that a big part of us has been taken away. You may have left this world, but you'll never leave our hearts. Rest in peace, Jan. Elton, these words say it all. Another of our Anglersnet family taken from us. Newt, I have not stopped thinking about you and Jan all day, I am just glad I had the opportunity to meet you both when you came over. She will be in my thoughts forever. Take care Lyn x
  23. Well done Alan and welcome to AN. Good report. I normally go out of Hayling or Lymington. How much was the boat and how many anglers can it take? thanks lyn
  24. So did I, love you really Pete x
