  1. You are paying for longevity, reliability and confidence. Not to mention sensetivity and versatility. Imagine fishing for pike with an alarm that only beeps with every half inch of travel, the trebles would be hanging out of the pikes sphincter before you knew you had any idea there was anything there. Ever fished slack line chod rigs, ive seen fish travel 40 yards with no indication on roller alarms, thats just irresponsible angling. Granted money should be spent on bait first off but once you have a good bait why not get the best of everything else. Thats the trouble with instant carp anglers that are about now, they have to buy all their gear in one lump. I can get that not everyone wants to put such an outlay out all at once but if you are building up your tackle then it makes sense to buy the best (within reason). Buy cheap, buy twice.
  2. Thats like saying why would you want a bentley when a nova has the same amount of seats. Thats the great thing about free will. I'd rather spend my money on tackle for a hobby i love than have a 25 grand car (probably like most with 22 grand on tick)
  3. I fish the method all the time and catch a hell of a lot more than those who don't. When fishing carp puddles (i am guilty of that one sometimes, especially this time of the year) i have moved away from people that have dropped in my pocket. Carp especially are drawn to the splash. Ive had takes many times before the line has sunk, even on harder club waters. If you want to get upset with someone fishing too close to you fish a water where the pegs are further apart. Other anglers are entitled to fish where they like, no matter how close or stupid it may seem. Winter is not a time for too many anglers, you really need an acre each so you can search out the area. Last weekend i had two anglers drop 10 yards to my left and I had 3 rods all on the method. He made it clear he wanted to fish where i was as the 'bloke' in there last week had loads. Just happened to be my old man fishing the method. I waited till they had all there gear set up then moved to the other end of the lake and had another half dozen fish. It serves me right for fishing a lake with a copious amount of tools on it, but i wanted a few runs so you have to put up with it.
  4. Had all my carp (except a few off the top) on pink corn for around the last 4 years. I did try the glow in the dark stuff for a couple of nights and while getting runs on the pink the glow in the dark stuff didn't move. I do fish the method so obviously the fish get drawn in to that but it very often outfishes boilies on the lakes i fish.
  5. lol, Get the quattro pod out, matching txis (all blue), blue nitelite hangers, 3 greys x flite+, 3 shimano xtea 8000s. Yeah it does look better if it matches and i catch my fair share so i think confidence is a massive edge. Must be level as well, you'll never catch anything if the pod isn't level
  6. Have a look on tackletrader. Chances are there will be some near you at the right price. At least you can go see them and play with them before parting with your money. I bought a set of new Txis on there at the beginning of last year with the hangers and saved 200 quid.
  7. I like it. Being mainly a carp fisherman who dabbles with pike and beach i find it mostly interesting. Do tend to use the fast forward button a lot on the trout programs though. They have some methods that are pretty new and i have tried them. Plus they have Chillcott on there quite a bit and as far as im concerned he is a bit of a leg end. The savage gear lures that were on there a month back are fantastic. They swim perfectly. Its like sink and draw but you can't cast them off. Would recommed the under lure hooks rather than the weedless ones that were on the tv.
  8. Caught a 2 inch Ruff on a half mackrel. Didn't see the bite though, so don't know if it counts. It was kinda hooked in the head.
  9. Wouldn't have anything else, ever, for anything....
  10. I was watching a bloke haul tench out of wissy pools in norfolk when there was snow on the ground last year. There must have been loads as i fouled one on a lure.
  11. Watched a pole go by the other day after a noddy left it fishing. Most ammusing. 16m of carp pole makes quite a wake. It doesn't take much of an obstruction to block some of the cheaper recievers either. Any angler can be irresponsible.
  12. Bet thats what my local club thought when thay had two old 30lbers dragged up the banks and their throats eaten out. There is a good reason they were nearly extinct. Only my opinion but id rather see em as a good pair of slippers

  14. Did try this after it was talked about on Tight Lines a couple of years ago and i think it was Newt who said i should have made hominy to make a proper American style pack bait. Mine was basically ground maize, chopped maize and golden syrup. It never worked for us and we went back to pellet method fishing. I did bookmark the hominy recepie at the time and vowed to try it, but didnt have a lot of fishing time this year. I even went a far as getting the Quaker instant grits sent from the Good ol US of A to try but that didn't work either. I reckon the fish i was fishing for were just to conditioned to pellets. They didnt even like boilies in there.
  15. Who the hell are they. As for the fish, one about the same size as that common would go through the holes in my net.
  16. With all the lures, poppers, plugs and jelly baits in the pike section of tackle shops it can catch many an angler. I will always pick up a mepp 5 before anything else. I don't pike fish in the summer but use spinning when waiting for the deadbaits to rattle off and it can be fantastic fun. Its surprising, a 2lber on a half mackerel can be a tad annoying but a 2lber smashing into a small spinner on a light rod is the best thing ever.
  17. I use the same hook and would say that the barbed version is really a micro barb anyway. I use both as some waters i fish also insist on barbed.
  18. The main one being, if you blink a carp wont pull the rod in.
  19. Might be a bit of a trek but the Wissy Pools ticket will come up in december if you get a letter off the Wissington angling club before then i should think spaces will be available. Not as good as it used to be but at least it didnt freeze to much last year.

    chair

Il second that had an original cocoon up until this year when it broke (15 years and i got it second hand). Could only be replaced by the new 2011 model. oh my...now that is a comfy chair.
  21. Reading some of the posts below is laughable. It must be after watching tools like robson green, people think every fish that is caught is killed. They must realise that if we took that stupid geordies advice and killed every fish we catch it wouldnt take long to empty the lakes we fish. Then again it is the daily mail, the stupid man's 'clever ' paper,
  22. Use tesco malted milk drink. Its horlick in all but the price tag. I often add it to my 'paste' after it has come out of the freezer a couple of times as it tends to lose its stickiness. I wrap my paste round a 2oz inline lead then use a 5 inch braided rig. The fresh paste can easily be cast 100 yards without falling off. If you mix in the Horlick knock off, it stick like the proverbial to the blanket.
  23. Just pour boiling water over them until u see it come through the gaps between the pellets. leave for five minutes then smash it all up with a bit of wood. Been doing this for 15 years of carping. Cheap and effective.
  24. Probably buy my x flite plus' again. But other than that guess you're think a cheap set of centurys or free spirits (probably not the free spirits from what ive heard of their customer services)
