  1. Might be a reel for a speargun or bow.
  2. Cheers fellas. He went out and got himself fully kitted out. Including a very gay waistcoat Looks the part, he just needs to learn how to cast now. Anyway, I'll be picking up his tackle dirt cheap when he gets bored with this new little adventure and takes up paintballing, windsurfing or carp fishing. his loss my gain
  3. Gutted Mally, If you're unable to go fishing when you're back, get in touch. I know it's a long way, but i'll treat you to a spot of carping Hope the insurance man brings you lots of new shiny stuff Singy
  4. I started fishing about 25 years ago (I'm 31 now). After progressing through the local junior match circuit and fishing a couple of junior nationals, I began to get interested in larger specimins. This started with fishing corn for the tench and crucians and i'll never forget the fist time I was smashed to oblivion by a large carp. That was it for me, I was hooked. My fist proper carp happened to be the biggest in the lake and bottomed out my 14lb scales. It was caught on a home made rod on a glass North Western blank (it was about 18lb). It was caught off the surface on a high protien floater cake recipie I saw in anglers mail, flavoured with green zing. As they say the rest is history. My current UK PB is 36.08, and my target now is a 20+ common. I've come so close many times (19.15 is my best). I will do it this season though I still enjoy fishing for other species, and my list of PBs are: Tench 8.14 bream 11.08 pike 22 eels 5.08 rudd 2.08 roach 2ish perch 3ish Singy [ 12. 5. clifton marina, carp to 30, bream to nearly 10, tench to 7 large pike.
  6. I have the 12ft 2 3/4 and I love them, until I got some century NGs. The infinities are much stiffer than the NGs, and can certainly cast a fair old way, but not as far as some rods on the market now. I've used them under the rod tip too, and with braid and have had no problem with them at all. But if it was a toss up between the 2 I would now plump for the NGs, if you are getting a good deal on the infinities then go for them, they area great rod. My advice would be to have a play with one first.
  7. sorry for the mix up, I enquired via email if he had and Biomaster 8000gt spare spools and he replied, just checked the email. "I have shimano 8000GT spools for £22 and the reels for a one off deal for £50", so he obviously got a bit mixed up. Or that deal was just for me
  8. tube tool - errr hello what the hell is that about? None shrink shrink tube, I kid you not. Nash lead clips - that snap on every cast
  9. That is not true Hereford angler. The warmer the water the less oxygen it can hold. Excess plants do give off oxygen during the day, but use it up during the night. Early morning and especially if there is stormy weather oxygen levels can get dangerously low. Other factors like rotting bait, polution all use oxygen to degrade and make matters worse. With water temperatures at their highest at the moment there is significant danger that lakes and ponds will suffer. Keep your eyes open for the first tell tale sings of fish gasping at the surface.
  10. The only badger item of tackle I've ever owned was a big pit baitrunner which I got for my marker rod. First cast with it, a plastic skirt came loose and jammed the reel. I couldn't wind in. Good job it was on my marker rod and not when I was trying to land a fish. Personally I would stay well clear. Have a look in the for sale sections of sites like this one, fishingwarehouse.co.uk, carp-angling.com and rmcangling.co.uk, fishydeals.co.uk . You can pick up some quality second hand gear at great prices. Singy
  11. 01792 202245 there you go
  12. Mainwarings in Swansea (sea tackle specialists) have Shimano Biomasters 8000GTs for sale at the moment £50 each. I have one of these on my spod rod and it's a great reel for the money. Their web site is down at the moment so I can't pass on contact details. Phone them though as they don't have the reels at that price on the site. If you really want the best though, it has to be Daiwa Emblem Zs or tournaments. They are the rolls royce of the big pit reel. These can cost you £200+ each but shop around for a deal on 3. Singy
  13. I disagree with not needing anything heavier than 2 3/4s. I was seriously under gunned when Fishing the tidal thames (even the bream were hard to stop ) Trying to land a catfish Launching large PVA bags Casting a big method feeder I agree in most still water situations 2 3/4 are fine for playing fish, but when handling heavy weights give me my 13ft 3 1/2 NGs any day
  14. I did a carpy one for a mate, you can download it from here. It was a bit rough and ready and I do intend making another once I have some time. http://www.singy.com/documents/install.exe
  15. Poppers are notorious for missed takes and bouncing fish off. A few things I have done to maximise my chances is to use a stiffer rod and change to braid. When the popper is hit I don't strike but make sure the fish has the lure by watching the line. If the line skips along the surface then I hit the bugger hard. The same fish will make numerous grabs at the same lure, even if it has been hooked momentarily. Singy
  16. The weekend was so hot no fish were playing ball. I fished the coarse lake for the carp, but didn't see a single fish. Not that there are that many in the 40 acres. Even the guys on the carp lake blanked. I did have a 11.08 bream when fishing for the tench though which is a new venue record and a PB. Well chuffed.
  17. No, they're for my daughter's wedding. Does he come gift wrapped? Introducing the new one legged Kevin Nash waders Do you have a matching gas mask? Day 52, the house mates have spent all day drinking wine

blinding hooks mate, no problems there. Try a grinner/uni knot. Can't really explain how to tie it. I'll try to find you a diagram
  19. Hi A mate of mine at work wants to start fly fishing (mainly put and take still waters, like sion park). He has asked me to help, but as my expertese is more geared to carp fishing I though i'd ask you guys for a bit of help. He has about £200 to spend (maybe a bit more) and would like a complete set up, including rod, reel, line, backing, leader material, flies, net, waistcoat, bag. As he travels on his bike he was wondering about a multipiece rod to keep everything small. Could he get a decent full set for this price? Thanks in advance Singy
  20. US crays were brought over here for the food industry but soon escaped into our waterways. I quite like the idea of catching fish that can walk on land. Imagine it stripping line of the clutch as it heads to a far bank bush, only for it not to stop and leg it down the A21
  21. A ghost carp is just a cross between a koi and a king carp. generally hardier than koi and popular in garden ponds due to their increased visibility.
  22. If your lake has slow sloping banks than you will need to fish rods at different distances down the marginal shelf. The fish may like to patrol say 10 yards out in 3 feet of water or 15 feet out in 4 feet. Once you have found their prefered depth or distance then you can concentrat all rods there or just leave the one there Take note if there is a certain distance pleasure anglers float fish. The bait, if going in at a certain distance on a regular basis could influence the patrol route of the fish as they come in to mop up all the left over groundbait, corn maggots an hemp etc
