  1. Don't be embarrassed ! It matters not a jot what humans may think of it! If those 20+ lb pike love it, that's what counts! Anyone tried one of these ?? DG  [ 05. March 2003, 04:24 PM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  2. Yup, I'd also guess that in the UK, topwater lures are mainly used in the Summer and Autumn The Jitterbug is a great lure - I prefer the larger, jointed version ... the hooks are rubbish though ... must change them The Crazy Crawler's not bad either except that it has the same rubbishy hooks as the Jitterbug. Stick some Daiichi, Owner, Gamakatsu or VMC on instead Also, I'd never be without a Moss Boss but don't forget to crush that barb! and as for propbaits, I rate the twin contra-rotating blades of the Woodchopper above the rest Surface mice, frogs etc are good too Poppers are also top-drawer top-water lures in my book An' don't forget to take that lill ole dorg for a walk Roll on the summer ... but meantime there's some serious "Just before the End of the Season" piking to be done!! 3. Heh! Methinks a certain PW wants to crank-up his cash-flow! I'd like pix with the ads. DG
  4. Thanks, Newt, for those Hints 'n' Tips, I always tell the truth, so libel's not a problem for me, but the truth often hurts, and I wouldn't want to hurt any chances of future potential advertisers for Elton's not-cheap-to-run web-site and forums (fora?), however cr@p the companies may be. Caveat emptor, eh?!! DG
  5. Elton Is there a facility for sellers to include pix of the goodies they are auctioning? DG
  6. He lives in Montana as you know, and these guys (CLICK HERE) are one of his publishers so contact them and most likely they'll be able to pass-on your message/question to JohnDG  [ 03. March 2003, 08:32 AM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  7. Birds eating fish, well that's natural!! Hedgehogs eating birds' eggs and young birds, well they have to be culled, don't they? Tight Lines - leon Ruddy ducks flying over to Spain and cormoranting the local ducks ... THAT'S NATURAL!DG
  8. You'll need very long rods indeed, Andy, as you obviously don't realise just how far apart these two rivers are! DG P.S. Seriously though, try Costessey Mill (pronounced Cossy) on the Wensum, and the Wye at Hay-on-Wye, although the Wye water levels go up and down like .... anything! [ 03. 10. Does that mean that we could then buy and legally wear T-shirts that say FC UK Cormorants DG
  11. Cheap, non-breathable ones make you sweat like a pig and often end up wetter on the inside than they are on the outside in the rain .... and breathable ones aint cheap! Personally, having had loadsa cheapo ones over the years, I'd recommend doing what I did and that's to save up for a decent breathable one. e.g. ESP Waterproof Suit 5000mm waterproof. 3000mm breathable. Adjustable velcro hood tab. Double pocket flaps. Internal mesh trouser panels for improved drainage. Have a look here Hooked Tackle & Bait or here DG [ 03. 12. HOOORAY! HOORAY!! But how do you tell the difference between a cormorant and a shag? (CAREFUL, Chesters!) DG [ 02. March 2003, 05:33 PM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  13. Are we talking ruddy cormorants too, P@ul?DG
  14. Have a look at FisheriesManagement Also, even though it might seems a long way off at the mo, it might still be worth having a word with your local Environment Agency advisor .. you need them on your side, I can tell you! DG [ 01. March 2003, 02:32 PM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  15. I've just received my order for Rapala SuperShad from TackleBargains ... they were £9.10 ea (plus P&P) i.e. £3 less than I used to pay! Need I say more?DG [ 01. March 2003, 10:16 AM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  16. What is a barble anyway? Is it a sub-species of barbel?DG
  17. Rudd, You have to ask yourself (don't you?!), how many pro-cormorant individuals actually own and fund fisheries themselves! If you don't and it doesn't directly affect your own bank-balance, it's the easiest thing in the world to hold-forth about how nice cormorants are, and indeed, many other issues. Listening to and reading a lot of the stuff, I think it shows that there's definitely life on other planets, because a lot of them clearly aren't from Earth! DG
  18. OK, Elton I was just being over-cautious. I didn't want to upset you or to abuse the Forum for advertising. Best to be on the safe side. I find it quite a job to know, in answering a query, just how far one is allowed to go re mentioning Brand names etc etc ( the administrators of a certain other far less grown-up Forum, gave me an unnecessarily and unjustified hard time over just this point). I'll just follow your lead. DG  [ 26. February 2003, 09:44 AM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  19. Yup, it's ESP (Drennan) Shrink TubeDG
  20. JonI'm assuming your local carping tackle shop doesn't have any! Carpers use it a fair bit. I shouldn't mention a particular brand name but here's what one well-known company supplies: ""Shrink tubing 10x5cm Brown colour. 1.6mm, 2.4mm, 3.2mm Best there is."" Failing that, try your local electronics/electrical/DIY & spares shop .. heat shrink tubing is widely used to shrink round cables, and that's often where I get my supplies from, except when they haven't got black tubing in stock DG [ 25. 21. Well, you can contact S&DAC here:- http://www.salisburydistrictac.co.uk/ BTW, I think you mean Ratfyn ... DG
  22. OK, Elton, will do in future DG
  23. Or even a type of mackerel?! DG
  24. Since Rapala acquired Storm lures, quite a few of the classic Storm lures have become a bit like rocking horse manure to find. The good news is that I found some of these Storm lures here DG
  25. Peter Do you have a URL link to a website about this i.e. c  rm  rants? DG
