  4. quote: Originally posted by J.K: I have been using the double bloodknot but have found it hard to tie at times, and have found them not to be constant breaking points. JK What do you mean exactly? If you mean that the knots are breaking under differing applied forces i.e. different stress loads/strengths, how are you testing them to know this? Also I assume that you are wetting the knot very thoroughly before pulling it tight?! DG [ 16. May 2004, 01:39 PM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  5. It goes without saying (doesn't it?) that the actual type of hooklength mono, its actual (rather than [claimed) BS,its age and the conditions in which it has been stored are as important factors as the knot itself. The no-knot-knot/knotless knot isn't easy to tie at first (what knot worth its salt is?) but it soon becomes second-nature after a while. The quality of the hooks is also an issue. They and their eyes should be absolutely smooth and complete free of any protuberances etc that may cause even the very slightest nick in the line, thus weakening it and rendering it next-to-useless. I reckon Pike just build up so much momentum, chasing your spinner, by the time you go to lift the lure, it's bound to take flight. The day I see a Pike take flight in order to catch an airborne or perched prey, I'll eat my hat. Well, Andy, for the sake of you and your hat, it's a good job you weren't with me a few years back when I was lure-fishing in the Avon...... I had cast to the far bank and neatly got my line and lure over a small branch quite close to the water, swinging gentle maybe about 2 or 3 inches above the surface. As I wondered what to do next .. either to try to flick my lure back over the branch, or to try to wade over to retrieve it .... up came a pike, and grabbed my lure ..... striking rather tardily (as you can imagine) I managed to hook and land it ...... it weighed about 4 lb. Time to eat your hat  ____________ DG P.S. This is another technique that pike are using now the weather's warmer ...... _____________ [ 15. Been overdoing the sherbert? The two posts in this thread talk about using candle-wax for a loose joint, not a tight one. Personally I like things to be tight .... as does Nugg with his sheep DG
  13. quote: Originally posted by BUDGIE: I am confused by a lot of the posts I have read on this subject, both on this thread and on many previous ones. I had always understood it to be use candle wax for a loose spigot and pencil for a sticking spigot. A lot of the posts contradict this. Well, I'm not sure candle-wax is man-enough to be used to build-up a worn joint, but it's OK as a lube. Graphite is definitely a good lube for joints. As for what to use to build-up worn-down joints, I would recommend something like a combination of PI Joint Restorer & Joint Save which fill grooves, builds-up a thin layer on the joint, dries really hard .. but still acts as a lube too. ____________ Here's what PI say Joint Restorer An excellent way to build-up worn joints. This liquid carbon hardens with a top-coat of Joint Save Joint Save Simply paint Joint Save onto joints to prevent excessive wear Well, they would, wouldn't they ! .... but I've used these to products for years and found that they do exactly what it says on the bottle PI also do what they call Joint Protectors ... see here DG [ 14.
