  1. Great site - would be good if they include UK Satellite shots. Had fun looking around New York, I managed to find my ex-girlfriends house in Brooklyn. Gillies
  2. Great shots Macky - love the colour of the sea where its breaking of the shore. You weren't shore fishing then? Sea Conditions here today were pretty calm looking, this shot from Stornoway Harbour looks like its nice and clam - once you go past the light house on right, it's very rough seas. My boat match is cancelled tomorrow due to weather apart from windy, its freezing cold. Gillies
  3. I've coded web site chat consoles, and messenger ones like MSN messenger - they dont take up much bandwidth at all. As Bob says, you would loose all record of all the great topics that are discussed. Personally I much prefer forums though, there is a record of soooo many different topics and is fun to read back throuh them now and again. With a chat program, an active topic could be over with, within a few minutes and no one would know about it such as someone reporting on a good fish they caught, or didnt catch. If you wanted a record, and were logging daily usage on a chat web site, ie writing it to a file on a server constantly each day what is been typed into the chat console - "ouch", the bandwith usage would be through the roof I'd guess. If I had the time I could code an AnglersNet Messenger program that people could use (but have nowhere near the time), and all chat on that would use up hardly any host bandwidth, mainly your own bandwidth - would be nice, but as I said I much much prefer forums so wouldnt want to see a chat. I love the current setup Gillies
  4. Bitterly cold, very windy with snow showers. Guess my fishing trip will be cancelled this weekend also. Gillies
  5. First Claud Butler I had around 10 years back, I was back at the repair shop every day after using it, and went through numerous cranks ... I hated Claud Butler bikes and they could just not fix it. I heard so many things about the Cape Wrath ... so took a chance and got one, and after a month of hell (they had sent wrong front wheel) ... once I got proper wheel, I have not looked back, I got it in Spring 2003. Take it for a 4-5 mile cycle thats a mixture of road and through a forest around 3-4 times a week, it is light and has guts. Did a search on the web, and they have it even cheaper now. http://www.carandcycle.net/ Good luck with what ever you choose. Gillies
  6. Around the £300 to £400 price range, the Claud Bulter range of bikes are pretty good (better than they used to be) I have the Cape Wrath and its 50% on and 50% off road. Took it for 50 mile road trip the other week with no problems at all. http://www.falconcycles.co.uk/2005/cb/capewrath.html I had a Muddy Fox before this one, and paid near £700 for it - I much much prefer the Cape Wrath at around £400. Thats my 2 cents worth. Gillies
  7. Possibly means our friends across the pond, dont exactly have the best of aim or maybe H&J Leather & Firearms is a very very big store and they were firing from a distance. lol Gillies
  8. Much the same up here in Lewis - nice and sunny with blue skys (but cold) one minute - dull pouring rain the next. Was hoping to be at this saturday for a boat match, but looking at the forecast I think from today onwards the weathers only going to get worse. Gillies
  9. I may be wrong - but I think the goverment are spending a couple of million carrying out a study on the effect of Salmon Farming on Salmon Rivers - however the rivers they are testing are mainly on the East coast of Scotland ... when just about all Salmon Farms are on the West and North coast, so the results can hardly be conclusive. For more vaild results I would of thought they do the majority of their testing in West/North coast rivers. Gillies
  10. Ha ha - good one Ziggy I am not 100% sure that the picture is genuine, the clarity of the picture is pretty good, and mobile phones although having bigger resolutions now, produce pretty noisey images when taking indoor shots - so some fancy work with noise reduction software would have to have been done. Also the shadow cast under her chin looks slightly un-natural compared to the one cast by her back. Then again I could be totally wrong, the picture could of been taken with a regular digi camera and then uploaded into the memory of the phone - so who knows. Gillies
  11. Just put the lure on my desk, put off all the lights so just had the dull light of whats coming in the window, and used a longish expsoure. If young snatchers camera has creative modes (Av,Tv,M etc) then what I did was put camera on tripod, put into AV mode of around 5.0 and that took an exposure of 20 seconds since it was dark. (so a long exposure on a tripod to make colours in lure more naturaly highlighted without using external light) The other way of doing it, I would suggest is to use the Macro mode on the camera (wee flower symbol on most compacts) and have good light, but watch for shadows that are to nasty - should hopefully get a nice clear shot even handheld. I shot with a Canon 20D and a 50mm F1.8 lens. Gillies
  12. Since I thought I would be fishing our first club boat match of the year tomorrow, and trying out Snatchers lures - I took some photos of them incase they didn't return. Just snap shots of them really, no fancy lighting or camera work, so photos arent that great - a little soft. The 30mph Southerly wind though means I doubt I will be at sea tomorrow. Gillies
  13. I cheated Davy - asked one of my mates up there where is it from picture and speices caught Gillies
  14. Great photos and reports - always a good sign when you see more photos of people holding fish than actually fishing, as it means everyone was to busy catching fish to take photos if that makes sense. Incidentally, looking at your Beach X and looking at the map (Im bored at work today) - does it begin with an X? (edited to change it to what it begins with) Gillies [ 30. 19. This Cormorant sat and waited for me to take out camera and photo him. Once shot taken, he dived in. Guess he was just posing Gillies

looks a wee bit like Tony Blair Gillies
  21. what were you using Mr Proudfoot?
  22. Have seen this photo used sooo many times with different text. Gillies
  23. I use "DVD X Copy", it pretty much does the business ... except if copying dvds where there are a number of shows on it (ie a Father Ted dvd) - it only does the first one. Otherwise, for movies - its great. Gillies
  24. Happy Birthday Blue - am sure a top half of the league finish is on the birthday wish list Gillies
  25. There are sooooooooo many pretty girls to choose from, but the two that stick out in my mind the most are: Barbara Bach Major Anya Amasova in The Spy Who Loved Me and a close second Britt Ekland Mary Goodnight in The Man With the Golden Gun Gillies
