  5. A belated welcome to the forum to you guys from the US from me - enjoying reading this thread from the beginning, aside from all the different views been expressed, its good getting an insight first-hand into the big game fishing you have over there ... and whats all involved! My ex-girlfriends dad has a pretty big power boat down by Siesta Keys ... sadly I never made it down to go fishing with him, he was more of a diver, and was clueless about fishing. Anyway, when ever I travel over to New York from Scotland for work or a break, I always set time aside for visiting the Farmers Market in Union Square on a Saturday to go and buy some Sword Fish and Mako Shark steaks .... without a doubt my favourite tasting fish to eat, and looks wise and taste wise there is very little difference from what I remember ... amazing on the George Foreman Grill. One of my friends is fishing in Florida this week, he is doing four days out on a boat - really hope none of you have the pleasure of his company ... he'll make you p*$$ed in no time, a right know it all On the arguement of the killing of fish - well, I come from a part of Scotland traditionaly known for been lovers of fish as food, so much of the fish I catch goes to good use and ends up on the plate providing a nice healthy meal. I release a lot of fish also, such as when I have no use for them, have caught enough of a certain kind, or am just fishing for sport. Way I see it, you guys seem to have your fishing at sustainable levels for these speices (when you think how many charter boats there are fishing out of Florida for years now, and still good numbers of these fish been caught on the rod ... you must be doing something right to keep the stocks healthy) ... and if your catching fish and they are going to a good use at the end of the day I dont have any problem with it. Anyway, just thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth on how I feel about it. Gillies
  6. We spent Saturday getting tossed around in a force 6/7, 5 miles of the West coast of Lewis drifting at over 3 knots struggling to catch fish (and stay on our feet) The Forecast got it wrong !!!!! While we were struggling, my mate went shore fishing and comfortly from the end of a pier enjoyed catching 16 Thornbacks, 5 Whiting, 2 Tub Gurnard and 2 Mackerel .... all caught on that yucky looking supermarket bought Mackerel which he had in the freezer (the weathers been so bad here for a month, we've not got fishing to catch any Mackerel to freeze for bait). 7. htaccess is good, but if you are using shared space you bought from a host there could be some problems with this on the server - namely your host may not allow it. Also think if your host is using a Windows NT based sever, that there may be some issues but I may be wrong. Gillies
  8. I put in a small bit of JavaScript in the head tags usually - just put in something like code: window.location="http://www.whateverwebpage.com/thispage.htm" Gillies
  9. Here's a shot of the wee fellow who wakens me up most mornings which I had to post - a pretty tame Starling. and one of the ferry leaving Stornoway Harbour here in Lewis. Gillies [ 13. October 2005, 10:16 PM: Message edited by: Gillies ]
  10. Am sure if someone sits down and has a Seat they can work out where Shauns photo is of. Gillies
  11. Didnt get out of the house today, to much work to do ... and it poured with rain. Took shots of this wee Blue Tit as it landed in the trees ... they are a pretty rare sight up here. Not the best of shots quality wise, had to shoot at a high speed in very dull conditions as the bird was jumping about from branch to branch and nodding his/her head all the time - You can also see the rain drops in the photo - look like scratches. Hope the bird returns on a dryer/brighter day to take a proper shot Gillies
  12. Years in prison: 29.5 Potential fine: £2000 Gillies
  13. Nothing great today either - though did photo some Starlings sitting in a chimmeny pot having a chat that made me smile ... heres a landscape I shot at sunset when I was out for a walk a few hours ago. Gillies
  14. Nice Pic Den !!!! I had hoped to take some nice shots today, as I took the day of to go Salmon/Sea Trout fishing in the Isle of Harris ... it poured rain all day though, so couldnt get any of the photos I had hoped to get Heres one from a very very bad bunch - will have to return to take shots when weather improves, and try to be lucky enough to get one thats half decent. Gillies
  15. Thats so funny Snatcher, made me laugh Hope that they understood second time you tried to get into bed. You could say you were just trying to make sure they were warm! Im missing The Match - have been so looking forward to it -- blowing absolute gale up here so Sky dish refusing to show Sky One. Gillies
  16. Reminds me of a day at work. Gillies
  17. Thanks Slack Lines, photos were taken with a Canon 20D with a Canon 70-200 F4 L Lens attached, with a Kenko 1.5 Teleconverter to give me a wee bit more reach. Ken - Hebridean weather is very unpredictable and a major talking point among people, you can easily have four seasons in one day up here. In general the wet and windy days out weigh anything else though, and this year we harldy got any nice consitent summer weather. Due to the North Atlantic Drift our climate is slightly different to mainland Scotland ... ie in the winter we are always a degree or two warmer than the coldest part of Scotland, so we dont get that much lying snow. We have just had 3 of the wettest weeks in memory for a lot of people - and there is a quite a bit of talk about climate change been the reason why .... in January we had a Hurricane hit the islands which was the wildest weather in living memory for anyone on the island. Looking at the forecast a horridly wild day is expected for tomorrow. Today though was an odd day, blazing sunshine one minute without a breath of wind, then howling wind and rain ... I spent the day Salmon fishing, and luckily got one Salmon, and a Sea Trout. Gillies
  18. Does it make any difference if you go into. [start] --> 'Settings' --> 'Control Panel' select 'Power Options' click on [Advanced] tab For the drop down menu: "When I press the power button on my computer:" select 'Shut Down' Not sure if all this will work, I remember sorting this kind of thing on someones computer before but I cant remember how I did it ... this may have been how. Gillies
  19. I am not one, and dont have any interest in becoming one. A number of my friends and some of my relatives are - its a very intersting subject (craft) if you want to learn more about Free Masonary from an outsiders point of view. There is a lot of credible information around you can read, and a lot of B.S on the web that sounds credible enough but should be ignored. Am sure there are a great deal of members on here, and enjoy been a part of a large, worldwide and historic organisation. If your interested in looking more into it. One good starting point is to look at the back of a $1 Dollar US bill - a good deal of bits and bobs on there. Gillies
  20. Photos arent good as I hoped they be, look much better full size as you see more detail in the boat and waves - Its leaving the entrance to Stornoway Harbour up here on the Isle of Lewis in Western Isles of Scotland. Gillies
  21. It looks like its hauling something, but looking at the photos 100% full size of boat am not sure if its hauling properly or hauling the net. The photos doing do the weather any justice, it was extremely rough - if the boat was doing 3 knots more it would of looked much more impressive ... it was moving out like a slug, so no nice big white wash over the bow just riding out the waves ... it soon has a change of mind, but took near an hour to turn the boat. For example, this one yesterday was steaming at its probably normal speed of 8 to 10 knots, the wind and sea was as quarter as bad today ... but was a nice wash on the bow. (this shot is taken from nearly half a mile away, so quality not to great) - if the one in photo above was hitting 2 knots it was doing well. Gillies
  22. Dont think I will be out sea angling tomorrow - looking at this fishing boat going out, looks like the drift may be a bit fast ... oh and standing could be hard. This fishing boat very slowly worked its way out, a big heavy boat - was getting tossed around like a cork, they didnt stay out to long ... came to their senses. Gillies [ 07. 23. I have the Pioneer model with the 80gb HDD - its really really and simple to work, I record to the HDD most of the time ... and if there is something I want to keep burn to dvd. Have started copying lots of old camcorder footage to the HDD, organising it and putting onto DVD .... simple. You wont be dissapointed with it. - Oh and my cousin works for JVC ... they use this Pioneer model as the benchmark on performance for comparisons. Gillies [ 07. 24. I was looking through photos I took in the summer, this ones nothing great ... but made me smile. What caption or speach bubbles could you put for the fly facing the other ones rear end? how about "Dont You Dare" Gillies
  25. Not looking forward to them at all, as they turn the fellow on the left above my name (my dog) into a nervous wreck. Though I enjoy watching them ... just feel sorry for my dog when they are going off. Gillies
