john why not start at the local tackle shop they should know the best rigs and baits for the water you are targeting.buy some made up rigs to start with and see how the work .it depends on the size of fish you are looking for as to the line strength hook size etc.carp up to about 10lb can be good fun on a pole if it's set up right and up to the job .cheers big AL

just got back from 2 days at Huntington area on the ouse ,fantastic weekend with good perch some around the 1lb mark on the pole with no 3 elastic fantastic fun . first night we had 5 zander between me a mike heylin which i topped with a fantastic looking 11lb fish ,only my 3rd ever zander and was i happy or what . really good weekend and great to see the river in such good nick with good fishing to be had . have asked newt nicely if he will stick the picture up for me as i am a complete Luddite .cheers big al edit note: didn't realize you'd alreay posted when I sent you the picture link.
