  1. Though I don't specialise in Perch fishing, maybe a good alternative to prawns could be Crayfish tails - ready cooked ones from the supermarket, They come in a similar pack to the ready cooked prawns but have much stronger flavour - thus more scent!! They look more like brown shrimp but much bigger. When carp fishing with either, I Invariably fish them on a "QUICKSTOP" hair rig which gives better presentation than just hooking them IMO.
  2. Hi all - your requests are all noted & all the spoons & blades are still available. (for the postage price only - I'm not making a penny) The spoons are all same pattern but differ in size/length & stamped "S" on the inner (plain) side which I can only assume indicates STAINLESS?? Very busy ATM so we'll do it new year if that's OK.
  3. I have a Grice & Young Wide Drum "Sea Jecta MK 2" Centrepin which I bought without realising it MAY be a salt water Pin?? I Guess the application is in the name. It's very free running & shows no sign of corrosion from salt water. I've only used it myself a couple of times at a local pond &, although a nice reel I'm willing to let it go!! Would be nice to let someone else put it to better use than I do!! I can dig it out if anyone is interested & I'll do a report on it's general condition, although I KNOW it's in good nick. (might be a very slight wobble?? but nothing at all to worry about) Martin.
  4. Latest re above - I emailed Marcus at the Outwood Tackle2u re the case, They've now altered the image as the case only applies to the Travel version. However, he'd be willing to supply it in a protective plastic tube.
  5. The site below will almost definitely have the above mentioned rods in stock right now (they are pictured on the site) & also may still have the 13 foot specimen rods which I have, Serial Number 14502.. (Mentioned + Link on page 1 by myself) A Proper 13 foot, 5 - 8 lb line rating with NO dolly section. Very well finished with single leg rings & a nice hinged hook keeper whipped on near the butt end. The ones in the page 1 Link are 4 - 7 lb line rating but from Angling Direct,(& sold out) so not quite the same as mine but like to bet the site below still has mine in stock!! - not advertised, but very likely they'll have one or 2 still in same as mine. (Mine perform great with 3 lb hook length also) The shop, Outwood, Wakefield branch is a mere 5 min' or so bus ride from me & I use them on a very regular basis. You will certainly also get the soft rod bag along with the the hard, zip top case. (I did when I bought mine from the shop - but won't harm to mention it in case it's different online?? - they should, as they supply from the shop - not a warehouse) They also do FREE shipping on orders over £50. Browse their site & enjoy. You can trust these people - really, very friendly, helpful & knowledeable I've been on very good terms with the owner of all 3 shops for years, Phil - Marcus's Dad. I knew Phil's Dad as well - Bob who is no longer with us, He just had the one shop in Leeds (Kirkgate Anglers) back in his day. Ask for Gordon, Mal or Marcus. 01924 - 835443 They all know me by name. (I must be spending too much with them - but don't tell the wife that lol) Here's the Link :- https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiPvqPK-P7QAhXBOlAKHdoRB5EQFggbMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Ftackle2u.com%2F&usg=AFQjCNEhZjw3uC1Qd1wkReD2zbRSM-mTyw&sig2=TpCdYqlo5rJyYvLVXL4R3Q
  6. There's 3 available on eBay - 6 sold, same seller. SS 1300's that is. Just scroll down just a little way, it's the top left on next set of pics. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiX9bX_7_7QAhXTdFAKHTpHD0MQFgg0MAQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fpicclick.co.uk%2Fdaiwa-whisker-tournament-ss-1300-fishing-reel-262666246443.html&usg=AFQjCNHA2_3gjQi1kc4rNbjD4vQ4Z64y_Q&sig2=eJaUX2hSllfLmhIoke4GKQ
  7. Hi John, have a look at my post & Link in the "Winter Clothing Recommendations" Thread about 6 posts down page 1.
  8. OK Emma, I'll put some Pic's on here in a couple of weeks time.
  9. Hi all you predator Anglers. I have or, may have access to literally thousands of Spoons (all stainless & various sizes) & Blades (silver, gold & Bronze coloured) The spoons are just blanks (scale patterned outer, plain on Inner) but pre-drilled both ends - No hooks or swivels etc, they need making up to the final article.. (blades are drilled one end only & are the finished part) They came to the company I now work for some 7 years or so ago - clearly someone else's order had gone astray & were destined for a finishing shop?? My boss said he was going to put them on the bay, but as far as I'm aware - Hasn't done so yet??? There is NO money making or profit on my side, but I'm willing to give away for price of postage will split them in quantities required. I'll post some pic's New Year - going on Holiday soon, so the window is far too tight ATM. There are Bags & Bags & Bags of them!! Providing of course they're still available!! - ie Boss hasn't already got shut?? No dealers please.- the Idea is to give you guys first option!! I'll ask him tomorrow to hang on till I get back!! PS - I have brought a good few home for my own use, but far too many, so even if he has put the rest eBay I have more than I will ever use.. so I have a good few to spare. Martin.
  10. Float legering, and stret-pegging are two different animals Martin. Stret-pegging is designed to work a bait through a swim, using the float, the float leger is a completely static method. John. Yes John, but one can let some line off & let the float Ledger trundle down a bit say, every few minutes to explore different spots further down the swim. Providing of course the Ledger isn't so heavy that it holds bottom on it's own!! I've sometimes rolled small Bomb or a drilled bullet across a swim, casting slightly upstream & to the far bank & holding the rod as though trotting!! (usually with worm, so it stays on) If the line goes at all slack or stops momentarily - its more often than not a Bite.
  11. Could always catch half to a pound of tommies (ruffe) when nothing else was doing.
  12. Martin, Scaredie cat. The LEVERAGE mechanical advantage of a 10 ft rod at 100 ft is approximately 1000lbs. It's the ft/lbs of torque the angler is responsible for. Regardless of the rod tc your only job is to maintain the mechanical advantage. Of course you could fish with timbers if you wish. Phone Excuse me phone, but I am an Engineer of some considerable (40+ years) experience - Torque is a Turning Moment - Not pulling!! I think you're confusing Torque advantage ie with a torque multiplier with Mechanical advantage. (Levers & Fulcrums) What's the timbers bit about ??
  13. Everyone - I've emailed my old friend tommyruffe (Matthew Foster) who builds the most Beautiful, bespoke fishing rods anyone has ever seen. I've invited him to join the forum. He tells it how it is in Angling terms, so please don't be offended, he really is a great guy - Not to mention his rod building skills!!.
  14. Remember Tommyruffe Keith?? Didn't he make some beautiful rods!!
  15. I have the PRESTON INNOVATIONS, DRI FISH CELSIUS it comes as a suit - separate coat with Bib & Brace Trousers which come up to the Chest. I've Never been cold in winter & really toasty warm. I paid £120 for the set. The tackle shop also sold me a separate coat (£80) which I use for going to work & knocking about in. To clean it - can't machine wash - just a bucket of soapy water & yard brush!! - As advised by Tommyruffe (BoldBear also knows HIM from our joint previous forum membership) Though I've never had to clean mine so far & had it about 4 years. Looks like the Newer & Improved versions to mine are now available. Here's a Link just to give you a taste :- https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwj-_eDu59HQAhUmKcAKHb2tDBoQFghEMAE&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tackleuk.co.uk%2FShop%2FClothingWaterproofs%2FPreston-Innovations-Dri-Fish-Celsius-Suit-.htm&usg=AFQjCNHkGBZp3K1coPp2ZQs5czCWs_aBKA&sig2=gJOP67nqNJgkrdZchQWEvA I'd maybe advise to try one on in a shop rather than buy online - unless you're certain of your size???
  16. Weighted butt will this set up for the individual will it depend on what type of reel and were you position it. Can any one tell me why our American cousins have there centre pin reels much closer to the bottom of the rod, rods look about the same length. Like glass fibre action but not the weight. !7ft is my limit Personally - I Like it "Right Up The Butt" - (the reel position I mean Lol) Nearly all rods these days have a Fixed reel position - Back in the day, nearly all fresh water rods had plain Butt rings so one could decide the reel's position to suit one's personal preference.
  17. Thanks Tigger - the rod being 2.75 TC, I would have thought it would handle it very well?? (as other members have also posted to that effect) Maybe you're right & I'll be sure to use the clutch AND the back wind rather that just HIT & HOLD!!.
  18. Thanks for that John, stret pegging was NEVER a term used in the circles of the Yorkshire Anglers I've ever fished with (& against) I've only ever heard of the term in Angling books & Mag's, so i assumed it was just a south of Watford thing. I'll give it some thought while I'm Liggin' in bed. You Live & learn!!! One of our now deceased club members (I'm talking over 40 years ago here) used to use to Stret peg/ Lay On/Float Ledger using drilled "Pea Bullet" near the hook length as the only weight, on the bottom & down the edge holding back. He called it Float Ledgering, which is most probably the correct term?? TBH - There's not that much difference in any of the methods - a more or less static bait save for the fluttering of it in the current.
  19. It's very possible that "Circle Hooks" could further increase you Hook Up rate.
  20. Thanks for the replies guys & gals - I'll live with the 20 lb Mono for now though. I won't be casting much more than 40 or 50 yards Max' & I think the up to 25% stretch can be a bit more forgiving for a tenderfoot Sea Angler - Which I am. Also - I don't really know any Braid knots, though I did once try the Berkeley yellow Fireline a few years ago, I didn't realise then that most Mono knots, won't work with Braid!!
  21. I have a Drennan Red 10 foot Carp feeder rod, I was informed by the shop where I bought it that the rod also takes the Daiwa push in tips - It must follow then that the Drennan push in's will fit a Daiwa?? The Drennan Red comes with 2 tips - 1 1/2 & 2 oz TC. I generally use the 2 oz tip - most bites on the commercials I fish are about as subtle as a flying Mallet, It's a huge risk pouring a cuppa without scalding ones legs in the process!!
  22. I'm going to Jamaica soon & taking the above mentioned Rod!!. 2 & 3/4 lb TC Shimano STC Long Cast BX 12 Foot 6 Piece Travel Carp. Might use it for ABU HI LO Lure. I reckon 20 lb Main or 20 lb direct would be OK?? I don't want to be overloading it, but this TC makes (to me) sense it would handle 20 lb main OK?? Obviously one has to adapt & make do with the limited stuff one can take!! I want to avoid bottom fishing as much as possible to keep away from the Stingrays - I got done in the hand by one a few years ago in Mexico - Hurt like hell!! & £70+ Medical bill.
  23. Hi Zed - I believe it's you who'd like these?? I also have a swing tip (1) you can have for nowt' - I'll never use it again, I'll even foot the postage to save messing about. Put a quid in a shop's a charity box - That'll do for me!! The screw thread is in the BA range of threads (6 or 8 BA I think- because I borrowed a tap from work once to clean one out) One of the very few perks of being an Engineer by trade + I get to make some bits & pieces now & again, being on afternoons - when it's quiet. If you're interested - can we do it early new year?? - I've a lot on just now, + going away soon. Martin.
  24. A "FREEBIE" & still working CD Player was washed up in a storm one night along with a selection of CD's!! Which CD would you you be hoping to find among these?? Roy Orbison's Greatest Hits would do for me followed by The Shadows, Queen or Four Seasons!! (Frankie Valli - Not Vivaldi Lol)
