  1. This might be of interest for some of you Skate Sluggers http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PENN-SENATOR-9-0-MUL...1QQcmdZViewItem
  2. It's PERCH ROCK ... Go to http://www.wirralseafishing.co.uk/forum/phpBB2/ You'll get all the info you need
  3. The Suveran has a faster action, the TDXU has a more parabolic action which personally I prefer. The Suveran is a tough rod, it has backbone all right but at the cost of sensitivity, its not lifeless it registers most bites, but as an all rounder, bite detection, casting ability, durability etc … personally I’d plump for the TDXU. I also find Daiwa rods (the UK made ones especially) are of a high quality than Abu rods in general, not a lot in it, but there is a difference. Abu rods are manufactured in Taiwan and China, the China factory Abu actually owns them selves and tends to be superior to the Taiwan offerings … but rod ownership is a funny game one mans ideal rod is not necessary so with another angler .. If possible if you could sample both rods you could form your own opinion that could be very different to mine, but I’ve a feeling you’d plump for the TDXU The Premium range of Abu rods are poor rods by TDXU/Suveran standard, this is too be expected due to their price, but ability wise there not up to much ... I actually grafted a Premium boat rod tip onto a Suveran boat rod butt section .. the original Suveran tip snapped like a twig one day whilst fishing off Anglesey ... anyhow the action of the Premium tip is very sloppy but I was only messing around due to the fact I had a Premium tip knocking round my garage … I’d suggest it not something worth trying if ever anyone is thinking about it, it’s quite a lot of work, more than I’d expected with p**s poor results.
  4. Got the Suveran and the TDXU .... action wise no comparison, the TDXU is the far superior rod …. with the sliding “butt section” on the Suveran Uptider you need to keep it lubricated … I’m sure there are people that have supplies of BUTT LUB, personally I have never sought them out I just used the car dash silicon spray, it works for me
  5. The Suveran are a reasonable rod, not iconic so too speak, but yes a reasonable rod especially if you can purchase it at a discounted price (is there such a thing as a discounted price?) It’s quite sensitive and it can indicate bites quite well especially when matched with a suitable braided line. Judging it against rods in the same class its more a bit on the limp side, it has a parabolic action as has a number of this class of rod but they have IMHO given it a bit too much mid section action and this has a slight detrimental effect on its backbone. Personally I’d rather the mid section action come in slightly later than its does, or in my case did! I find the Daiwa TDX a more versatile rod and personally prefer the action of the blank more so than the Suveran action, the single legged rings are problematic, as previously mentioned easily damaged and prone to corrosion. There nice rods especially when being used for species hunting and Bass fishing, but they do not have the ability to cover as large a range of fishing as say the Daiwa TDX class rod of the same weight category. When my Suveran let go it was not under a great deal of stress, yes it was under some but not anything that I would have expected it too have made it fail so drastically, as it did. Would I own another one? … yes, if the price was right, but if I had the option of a TDX for the same price I wouldn’t give it a second thought it would be the Daiwa TDX. My boat rods do tend to have a hard life, all of them do, so it’s a level playing field in that context. I regularly use a Suveran Uptider as I will be later today and I also will be using a TDX boat rod, the TDX uptider I have is more in keeping action wise with the Suveran boat rod than the TDX boat rod if you get my drift … anyhow whatever you get or choose … tightlines, and I hope there is a distinctive arch to it and its because of a large fish
  6. Tackle judgement is a funny old game ... someone might think it’s the dogs dangly bits, the next man might think it’s the dogs gonads … I have notice the stand is sort of being set with the Abu Suveran rod appraisal? … well they are nice action rods and that’s a fact “according to my opinion!” … but are they good rods? … well mine snapped like a twig and fished next to a Daiwa TDX it was always the second best rod in my opinion … but what is my opinion worth? … not much really, but is anyone’s? … it’s down to the individual, some like it hot, some like it cold …
  7. Sincerest sympathies to all family and friends on this very sad news.
  8. Suppose the bigger the ego the bigger the fish that needs to be killed in the name of a trophy ... I'm not surprised it was kill, I'm saddened but not surprised.
  9. Apparently there is a Russian made GPS jammer system that was bombed in the last Iraqi war, by a GPS guided munition … if it’s true? …. The story was released by the US military, they are likely to publicly emphasis this due to their future funding budgets for GPS and their Capital Hill supporters. Either way the cost of maintaining the system and improving the system is expensive when compared to the cost of a system that has to be developed to counteracting it.
  10. so hopefully I might land one ... here's too hoping
  11. Suppose it has a bit to do with where your fishing for them, one area might have a larger stamp of fish than another, and a good Male Tope could be considered a nothing special Female Tope with regards to weight etc .... Personally as a rule of thumb, I would say any Tope 30lb or over is a good fish for my own area.
  12. I can not see this being an advancement in regards to BFM ...

Legal-illegal ... not sure ... but I do have a sneaky admiration of the guy all the same ... we need more inventors in this country and to give them a chance to succeed in their quest

I thought it was a " HAMAS " pro-mo video with regards to the occupied territories The video took longer to load than his mortar, and that took an age.
  15. Just noticed this article ... very well written and very informative This year we intend on having a bash at the Skate, I have been saying it for a few years, but never got round to it for one reason of another Two of us intend on towing our boat up to Scotland sometime this summer ... will take this info onboard

  17. That’s fine if that’s what you want and I’d also agree that the bottom and middle priced reels are ideal so some people. But if you are into lets say competition fishing and you tend to hammer your gear on a regular basis its not uncommon for these reels to fail more often than say a reel of a higher quality/price ... that’s not to say it not inconceivable that an expensive reel will definitely never fail, but the odds are in your favour it won't! It’s down to the old scenario! …. You can get from A-B in a Mini or a Jaguar, both get you there, it’s just that both do the same job in a different way … I'm a Jaguar person
  18. A 40mm projectile would do a lot of damage indeed even at a range in excess of 1500 metres ... especially against a vessel that is not built or intended to ever withstand impacts of this nature.
  19. The problem with Abu is the way it was bought out ( Pure Fishing ) ... it was all bought with bank loans, Mitchell was also bought by Pure Fishing around about the same time .... Question .... which one cost Pure Fishing the most … Abu or Mitchell? Answer ... believe it or not MITCHELL ... I'd suggest it was more to do with Mitchell owning more real estate and a long term plan of using one of Mitchell old factories as a European distribution centre. Sales wise and product selection many might think Abu would be more expensive …. Anyhow either way the banks in all honesty own Pure Fishing, and banks want and will get their interest payments come hell or high water! …. No excuses of traditional manufacturing or heritage has any sway with the banks … job looses, jobs exported to a cheaper labour force, all is totally acceptable in a free market that is in essence run by global bankers. The country and the topic of extremes is undoubtedly the USA whether it’s extremes of a good nature or bad it’s your choice as to which way you see things … you decide! So what all this got to do with cheap reels? Abu/Mitchell “ amongst others “ are owed by the company headed as Pure Fishing which is a USA company, which in turn owes the banks millions of dollars, they see the company/companies survival as a financial asset in as much as turnover, not that different if any from most other companies around the world. But the USA companies are run ruthlessly, or efficiently as you see fit, and nostalgia, tradition, quality, exclusivity are not what drives Abu! …. Its purely down to market sales and turn over. If its more profitable to manufacture $8.95c reels in the Far East that the route they will go. The main plant in Sweden and its ironic too call it the main plat anymore is at a crossroads, what they produce there at present is only a small limited amount to what they use to produce not that many years ago …. e.g. … NO Abu 7000 model reels or bigger are produce in Sweden any longer … only Abu 6000 series and smaller … up to a year or so ago the only Fixed Spool reel made in Sweden was the Suveran, this might have ceased production from that plant, this I’m not 100% sure. Yes there was a number of Abu 7000 and larger reel that had the sticker on them stating that they were made in Sweden, this was then altered to Assembled in Sweden, this has ceased also they are sold as they should have been from the start as made in Taiwan! … they also have some cheap fixed spool reel made in Bangladesh .. and a Rod plant in China, which is expanding …. Anyhow the only thing that stays the same is the fact that nothing stays the same … its called progress! … try telling that to the Swedish engineers that for so long have given to us some of the finest fishing reels the world has seen …. But unfortunately this has changed Abu are not the best reels for their price on the market, wonder if the banks accountants will be all that bothered?
  20. A number of reel manufacturers won't both to have their fixed spool reels repaired as the price of postage verses the cost of unit construction make it financially unviable …. The unit construction cost to the manufacture must be a pittance for these cheapo fixed spool reels labour is negligible when compared to Europe/USA. There is a saving to be made when these cheap reels are manufactured and this saving quality wise is passed on to the purchaser. They are ok for occasional usage but are found needing when being used on a regular basis. For some people they are ok for people that fishing hard and regularly they are best avoided IHMO … It’s a shame to have arranged a fishing session to be let down by inferior equipment! … but yes they have a place in the fishing tackle market place, but not for me.
