  1. beebs man off on sunday night to.....MEERU... how about that ..of all the islands lol ....looking forward to it ...nice one mate
  2. I'm off to the maldives on sunday... . Amongst the few things to do there is night fishing (or at least thats what they call it). its only for two or three hours on a boat about 7 or 8 oclock in the evening in the sea with a hand line. there is an internet cafe there so i'll message in and let you know how i got on........woohooo...!!! see you guys in a fortnight
  3. the club to which I am a member "pride of derby" lets kids fish all of there waters only if they have an adult member with them( one adult to one child) for free all year round. the only exeption to that rule is the canal ( of which the have twelve miles!) then a junior year ticket is required. price?! five quid for the whole yr, even then I think they only do that for insurance reasons. And all the above right upto the age of sixteen fourteen quid for three hours! Its disgusting and scandalous. [ 14. August 2004, 10:58 AM: Message edited by: frodo_uk ]
  4. saw one in miss selfridges window the other day
  5. fizzes eh? ...coke cola's secret ingrdient?
  6. surprised this one hasn't benn mentioned yet! "weetabix" crumble up some weetabix (as much as needed) there nowt to touch for soaking up the sweat, the fish wont mind it at all and strangest of all, it kinda plumps the maggots out a little more
  7. i find anglers net a good resource . normally you need but to ask
  8. caa I am brand new to pole fishing so unfortunately I have no previous to compare with , however in my opinion its a decent pole for the money and I am pleased with it, esp as you get all the extras with it i.e. cups (in varying sizes), four sizes of elastic, estication kit and two tips. will take upto an eighteen elastic too. and having researched thoughly before parting with my money I don't think you'll go far wrong with the conpiracy. that said, I did have to send mine back to fox becuase of a cracked butt section, but i'm sure that thats not the norm and i did arrive back within five working days.
  9. ok guys I think I know what bz is talking about. Only because I saw it in this weeks angling times under the " new tackle" heading. It is as bz has already said a swimfeeder. no float just a swim feeder. It dosn't look unlike the kamasan feeders but instead of a black cap it has an orange cap, and instead of sinking, it floats and i presume the orange cap acts as a visible bite indicator when it disappears under water. is this it bz? http://www.feedersdirect.co.uk/uk_shop/chomper.html it looks like an an interesting idea to me.
  10. makes me feel a bit better to know that I'm not the only one that finds this species illusive. I will continue with determination until I catch my first "big" tench.
  11. big al and klienbot you both have posted posts which I think are going to be extemely useful to me ...thank you, and rudd you read my mind,I have heard of this video and had half a mind to buy it. your recommendation has sealed the deal cheers . and last but not least I hope I have as much success as your son has had on his pole. (perhaps I should of gone for a cheaper model ) lol
  12. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Think I would have stuck to the Anne Summers model! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think there should be an icon for "whoosh that comment went right over my head" . maybe I am thick after all. I'm damn sure its not the pole, its me, but just need a few pointers on handling it . ohh i see an ann summers "whip" i get it now. I was a bit confused as i am talking poles now. doh! [ 06. 14. oh dear  well got my pole home only to find a crack in the butt section so back to fox it went and returned about 10 days later. Gave it a test drive last night (in the rain ) And I'm having to admit to not exactly taking to pole fishing like duck to water . having 12m of pole in front of you is hard work...the pole weighs a ton like that and the end is sooo wobbly at full stretch my end tackle tangled. plus now holding the pole in both hands how do you feed your swim ? its not like it will sit on a rod rest. if you leave a section of pole behind i cant lift it cus the end section hits the ground . adding sections whilst there is ten ot eleven meters of pole in front of you is nearly impossible cus of the weight. now! I aint stupid! I seen plenty of other anglers using em just fine, so I know I'm doin' it wrong ! please help  thx
  15. thx all and ratty I am not going to give up yet just adds to the challange and determination to catch one
  16. plenty for me there to get my teeth into....the club rules do allow night fishing there and I am considering it. quote: if you can, see what others are doing, normally I'm the only one there, there no carp in it and its like a little hidden gem, but a tough one to crack. I was fishing a mini pop up boilie (scopex flavour) over a sensas tench groundbait mixed with some maple syrup favoured sweetcorn and chopped worm and red maggots to boot. the pop-up was hair rigged andhalf the time I added a worm to the main hook . not a sniff for al my hard work quote: get a copy of "Fishing for Tench" by Fred J Taylor. If you don't catch after reading all of Fred's advice, you never will !! this sounds like a good read ..will do if i can find it.
  17. quote: if other people are catching and im not it intrigues me as to what im doing wrong and try to remedy it. Absolutly I hate that....
  18. I have had quite a few goes at our local pond to pull out some of the "big" tench that I know are there, however no joy not a sniff not a nibble ...but they "are" there. The pond is very very weedy with a few lilys to boot. I am not alone in this tench hunting failure, the home site of the club has a forum and others mention there frustration at failing to hook into a tench..only one man claims to have had any success capturing four tench in half an hour between 6 and 8lb...however to use his words "the bites stopped as if someone had flicked a switch". It was his forth attempt to catch one and would have been his final had he not caught ? So ..anyone got any suggestion as to why they might be so difficult to catch, and how one might try some tactic to land a few?
  19. lol @ budgie. ajp...you may well be right, I only assumed they where for dogs because the were near the dog chews 'n' stuff. did wonderabout them not breaking down in the water....but I still reckon the fish might like it... if they go hard in the cold water as you say then maybe you could break off chunks 'n' stick em on ya hook?
  20. me, I like to be catching regularly, so tend to fish the smaller baits and keep the action going and if a biggun comes along all the more pleasurable for the surprise.but of late I fancy hookin' a few bigguns so have been changing my tactics...I must be on the turn

  22. quote: how do you make a spinner form a spoon?? take off the trebles get a grip on the shank and dig the spinning bit into a nice tub of ice cream and hey presto
  23. saw them at the market the other day, you buy them for dogs , big balls of fat. they reminded me of balls of groundbait and wondered if anyone had tried lobbing a few in ..?
  24. So what do prefer to catch ....the loch ness monster on your only bite all day, or bag up on fish a cast?
